Yup, get hired on as an admin. Other than that, karma or nope.

You make it sound as though I'd have any form of a chance at getting hired, despite lack of employment history (a current and aggravating issue perpetuating my lack of employment history, as I need a history to get hired, but I've not been able to get hired so as to have a history), and despite my general lack of being nice. If I applied for a position on the FFXI team, what do you think my chances would be?

I thought of some more questions which aren't sarcastic and silly! Let me know if you're sick of me yet. Smiley: clown

Is there a schedule which the Admins follow to make sure that at least one Judge Dredd is around during the slow hours?

If the above is true, is it considered taboo to game/watch a movie/have intimate time with significant other/etc. if you're 'on duty' while the site is slow?

Do Content Managers do a lot of moderating in sites other than the one they're specifically staffed for?

How do Admins typically communicate with each other on a regular basis? IRC or is there some sort of Admin webchat thing?

On average, how many pageloads per day for the entire ZAM network? How about for individual sites within the network (numbers or percentage)? I'm just curious how they stack against each other.

Which generates more revenue for ZAM; advertisements or premium memberships? I'm guessing advertisements, since premium doesn't really apply to some sites like Wowhead.

I have a question that has been bugging me for a long time. Can a Brita Water Filter make urine drinkable? I mean I know it would still be nasty but I am talking about in a life or death situation? Cause if it did and I was going in the desert I might just carry one.

Well, around here, your forum posting history IS your employment history in many cases. If we had any openings there, which we don't currently and they just got hit with cuts recently, given past admins we have hired, you would probably have a better shot than some, and worse than others. Other admins do get a say in who is hired. Its not a popularity contest so much as it is a "will this person interact well with the team, and will they do the work". contest. Sometime very active posters make excellent admins. Sometimes they actually end up making horrible admins because suddenly, their free time place to vent and blow off steam becomes work. It changes your perspective on the site. Suddenly there are restrictions on your posting habits. You can't necessarily just tear into people because you feel like it like you may have in the past. You may find yourself worrying that too many posts by yourself feels like "hijacking" a forum, where before admin it never once concerned you. Not to mention the actual job part of the job which usually consists of lots of data entry, etc.

I don't mind spiders in game so long as I get to kill the **** out of them and I know about them in advance. Prefferably killing the **** out of them from a safe ranged attack distance. With fire. Lots of fire. Or rocks. and the rocks are also on fire.

Any Admin: How many reported posts do you average a day?

I'd say we get maybe on average of 30-40 a day if you discount the multiple people reporting the same post. Some days are more.

Admin powers, available in several different levels, and not including manager powers which I don't have include:
Ban (limited to few individuals, myself included)
Mute
unban and unmute
Norate
Un-nuke all posts and reset to 3.00 base karma (very few admins have that one - also known as the master karma reset switch)
remove user avatar
view all posts by user
view all wiki entries by user
view all rates by and all rates on user
Varous super sneaky sockpuppet tracking tools which I will not be disclosing
various reminder toggles (unmute user X in 24 hours, etc)
Various enhanced thread notification tools,
Telekenesis
Ability to order pizza speedily and accuratly.

We all have general availability patterns, though there is no set schedule at this time.

Depends on the day. I for one tend to read news and other sites in between scanning forums. I have a dedicated "work" pc next to the gaming rig, so i've always got notifications up even when you don't necessarily see me in the user list. That being said, when people aren't doing things, its pretty obvious. The recent cutbacks have reduced hours for many of us though too.

Most of the content managers stay within their respective game areas mainly out of familiarity. Some of them venture into other areas as well. there certanly is no rule against them moderating other areas, and we all jump on reported spammers as soon as they are reported regardless of area. Where the seperation tends to be more pronounced is with game specific reported threads "User X said ____ about the game, and thats not true because the unicorn of deciet is actually purple ban him!!!" in those cases, even I will usually defer to the content manager unless I happen to play that game myself.

IRC chat, e-mail, sometimes phone are the usual admin communication tools. IRC actually ends up being pretty effective for the most part overall.

Pageviews I don't have figures on at the moment. Angsty or one of the devs might know that. Wowhead does more pagevies than most everything else. The game sites themselves tend to get about 80% more traffic than the forum sections for those same games, or more.

Revenues vary. In the past it was Premium. These days, its ads. will it stay that way? I have no clue.

Believe it or not, but in a survival situation, urine is actually drinkable as is. After a certain period of time drinking it, you would die from it, but people lost at sea have been able to survive weeks by doing that, disgusting though it may be. Its better than being dead. That being said, if you are lost in a desert, you should take a square of shiny aluminum foil and a square of clear plastic. fold them up, keep them in a pocket somewhere. Then what you do is dig a cone shaped pit, and line the pit with your aluminum foil to make a parabolic reflector. now put your water bottle or cup to catch the water at the bottom of the pit (or make one out of the foil) and then make a shallower cone out of the plastic wrap. Similar to this diagram further down this page: http://www.m4040.com/Survival/Skills/Water/Water.htm
To improve your chances, you can toss any vegitable matter, edible or not into the still. any moisture in that plant matter will be evaporated and collected by the distillation plastic wrap, giveing you clean drinkable water.

When talking about mobile devices, for me, Android. For PC's, windows 7/

For me it comes down to usability and general philosophy. I vehemently oppose Apples limited locked down philosophy, and I do not own any apple products period. I require sufficient hardware resources and speed to do a multitude of tasks with my phones, including the occasional citrix session. For a long time I was a windows mobile user, and if they had released an open, not locked down variant that was closer to actual windows, I would still be a windows mobile user. Unfortunatly, they decided to emulate apples philosophy, and destroyed their entire market share overnight. Android phones are still locked down more than I would like, but there are workarounds in place, and it is a compromise of hardware and features.

I want Windows 7 on a mobile device. The whole damned thing, not locked down, maybe with a UI overlay to make phone dialing and similar tasks easier. What I don't want is the horrible abortion that Windows 8 looks to be so far. What we got with windows 7 mobile was an inferior Iphone with lower end hardware, buggy UI and no support for any legacy apps.

If they turn windows mobile around and make it more in line with my vision for it, and put it on truely cutting edge hardware, then maybe we'll give it another shot. But they took one of their most diehard supporters and lost my buisiness entirely.

Im not a big apple fan myself, their computers are over priced and there are lots of things I hate about useing their Mac OS, but I own an iphone. It sucks as a phone, but once jailbroken its pretty awesome. I'm curious about android but I dont like hwo fragmented their OS is with their hardware.

Windows 8 looks like a consumer OS that will probably flop, but the mobile Windows OS looks interesting.

My husband had a windows phone for a little while and he really liked it. I'm thinking about getting one when I get another phone. I know Android is king now, but I keep hearing about a lot of issues they're having (the current OS upgrade borked my husband's phone and he had to roll it back) and the viruses in the apps. I used to be a Blackberry girl, but let's face it: BB is all but dead. And it's a shame because that was the best phone I ever had.

Drat. Is there somewhere I should keep my eye on just in case? Monotonous data entry is my specialty, especially if it involves me getting paid for it.

I hadn't heard about Windows 8 yet - this seems pretty quick to already be working on the next version. But whatever.

I did a quick google of it, and... Oh. Oh God. That does not look good.

They usually get posted on the main pages. Right now we only have the one opening for the programmer. and given the previously mentioned cuts, I doubt we're hiring more soon except to replace attrition losses.

Those types of services don't seem to have the best phones. At least that's all I could gather. Boost uses Sprint's network which is what my husband has, and he's always got a signal. I've been thinking about going with something like that myself, except I want a Windows phone and you can't always find them on prepaid services.

Sprint's service is just fine here. So I'd assume since that's what Boost uses, they'd be ok too.
