So, I've had this nixie tube clock sitting around for a bit, and I'm finally getting around to doing something with it. I'm quite the novice with crafty stuff like this though, so I figured I'd submit it to y'all for advice.
Here's what I'm working with:
The clock is good to go as is, and runs off an outlet. It's got two buttons on the back that for switching functions and setting the time.
Basically, I need something to put it in. My initial thinking was to do something like the Nixie Concrete Clock, though I think I'd probably use Hydrocal. Maybe add some ink to dye it somehow.
Thing is, Hydrocal is kind of a ***** to use, especially with complex forms (and I'd like to have the cast fitted around each individual nixie tube). I'm interested in at least considering other options.
So anybody have any advice? I'm up for any creative input on the little project. Whatever I do, I want to play to the nixie clock's aesthetics (basically, rough-looking and ominous). Are there other good casting materials to check out? Resins? Rubber? Are there better, non-casting options? Any other cool clocks worth looking at for inspiration?
Anything's appreciated.
