65536 is 1 higher than the maximum value that can be stored in an unsigned 16-bit integer value. If the post count was internally represented by an unsigned 16-bit value then on Joph's 65536 post the counter would roll over to zero. (65535 = 0xFFFF, 0xFFFF + 1 = 0x10000)

I didn't read everything too fully, but I remembered a few things I needed to answer and also some of these. Also tired, been troubleshooting a car issue all day after the previous day finding out that 1 of my 2 drives in a raid 0 died = reinstalling every-farking-thing in the world so tired and grumpy. yeah.

Shadowstrike: When I compare the two it's a 6 post difference, since the Posts page would now read 6,165.

Me - Yeah, I don't recall off-hand wtf the reason behind all that was, but that's the reason I originally added a second part to postcounts on user pages. Short answer is, there were things that incremented your postcount attached to your userid, however when you go to the database table with the messages and count those, it differs because the aforementioned thing.

The following will differ from shown postcounts and such in some cases because older (UBB-era?) posts were appended at some point to these guys. What follows is for things in their current state of the system. Also I got raw numbers then did calcs with them so not to **** off the DB more than I already did. Hence, rounding. 1024 is magic number (B = bytes, K = 1024*B , M = 1024*1024*B)
