That is shocking but honestly the person that printed that was not Welsh so perhaps a better thread title would be "Silly English People" since you know a Welsh person would have been able to understand what they had received back in the out of office.


Yeah I know the mistake was made in Swansea Council but they do have English people living there

Maybe if they didn't ask for signs in useless languages that hardly anyone even speaks, there would be enough money in the kitty to pay for a second person in the office to cover holidays Smiley: schooled

Actually, very few Welsh people speak Welsh. Many of them don't even have an accent, unless you're deep in the valleys.

Mainly because it's just a damn silly language.

I'm from Wrexham, most people I know from Wales speak Welsh as a second language.

I lived in Wales, Snowdon, to be precise, for a time in my youth. Most people spoke Welsh there, but the younger kids often talked English when among peers. I can speak quite a lot of Welsh - or, well, I could. I'm probably not fluent anymore.

Well alright, let me put it another way. While Welsh is taught as a second language in schools here, it is used little enough that the Welsh I have met(however much they hate the English) can speak little more than a few words or phrases of it.

And what would I know about the accents? I've only lived with six different Welsh people over the last year and a half, and none of them have had recognisably Welsh accents (except for one girl who got a Welsh accent the more she drank). One of them is even confused as American on a very regular basis.

During the last 12 years i've lived with 50-60 Welsh lads and known 200+ more well enough to know if they spoke Welsh.

I know 1 welsh speaker who does it as a party trick and says he never speaks it in wales.

On accents, central and east Wales have a much more broad accent, south Wales accent is unrecognisable from a Bristol Accent.

I actually have a map which shows the rain statistics of Europe at home, and apart from Wales and Ireland, Britain is about average in rain.

True story, I can listen to a Welsh person for like 10 minutes before i realize they are speaking English. Also, I was convinced, until recently, that tarv was Welsh. I don't know why either.
