leader or followerFollow

#1 Nov 06 2007 at 6:53 PM Rating: Good
After finally getting my ridiculous computer fan under control (220 cfm at 59 deibels) and and a lot less louder I started thinking about something that happened to me a few days ago.

A few days ago I was discussing some options on how to move a bunch of data for some server migration tasks in the plant I work at and it occured to me that I was really the only one giving any ideas. People would either disagree or agree with them but no one really took charge in the discussion even though these people where above me.

So my question what are you, a leader or follower and why.

Are you a leader or follower?
Leader :29 (70.7%)
Follower :12 (29.3%)
Total:41

I see my self as a leader. Im usualy the first to get thigns rolling and when any team type game im always commanding people to this or that. I get very upset when im not leader and im following someone who obviously is not a leader. I also have a slight problem dealing with authorty.

I prefer shooting holes in other peoples' confidence, myself.

Follower, I'm scared of doing mistakes and have people put it in my face.

Actually, it greatly depends on the situation and people I'm with.

Follower. Mine is due to laziness and unwillingness to devote my time to handholding idiots who can't make up their own mind.

I usually end up as a leader even though I hate it.

I like being a mindless follower, but I often end up caring too much to let things end up like someone else would let them. If you want something done right, do it yourself.

Mainly a follower due to laziness, but when ideas are suggested it is usually me that ends up doing the planning for them due to everyone else not being very good at planning anything whatsoever.

That's not in any way the definition of a leader. At least not an effective one...

I'm both. Anyone who defines himself as one or the other is likely not really good at either. There are times when you need to take lead on something. There are times when you need to follow someone else's lead. A team player knows when to do which and to what degree. Someone who insists on always being one or the other is either hindering effective work or limiting their own potential.

Next week. We discuss "The Funnel"... ;)

Depends on the situation. I have an anxiety problem that can get very bad, so on off days I'll want to avoid any conflict. When I was a supervisor I pushed through and got things rolling no matter what, but it was highly stressful. In school and social situations, sometimes I was the person who set the pace, others I was barely speaking.

All in all probably a follower, unless the leader is being an idiot.

i am comfortable with being either in the right situation, but as i am a business owner and a leader in my community, well most of the time i am the leader.

If I know what I'm talking about I'll lead. If I don't, I'll follow. I don't fake it just to try to make myself look better.

i voted leader.
But i usually like to just sit back and see how things roll out...then if the time and action is needed, become the leader to fix what might have gone wrong.

I abstained.

It depends on the situation, and how comfortable I am around the people I am brainstorming with. I am pretty confident that my ideas will be well received at work, so I will speak up. But if I'm with people I don't know I tend to keep my mouth shut.

I tend to start out as a follower in any given situation, until I become comfortable. I'm shy and reserved when I enter a new situation but become confident and often find myself thrust into leadership roles as things continue.

I prefer to be the number 2 guy. Passing off ideas and assisting in making difficult decisions. I would like to be a leader but I lack the confidence to run an entire operation while maintaining the respect of those working under me.

This thread lacks my name in the title. It should really have my name in it.

Fact is, I think better than most people, so it's only right they obey me. Okay, maybe that was over the top, but I much prefer being in a position to delegate rather than being told what to do.

This should come as no surprise to any of you lessor beings.

I'm perfectly content to lead or follow.

More often than not, though, I find myself leading. It's the borderline narcisscism that makes me, I think.
#26 Nov 07 2007 at 3:09 AM Rating: Good
Both. Follower if there's a leader about, and if not I'll take charge.
