Not if we define a child as any person under the age of 35.

Ok, since my edit didn't work:

Yes because any person even ONE DAY under 18 is a helpless newborn, incapable of making their own decisions.

Yes, they should. Because a 35 year old is a legal adult and not a child.

Right, but it's apparently advocating for continual testing throughout life to unlock various rights and privileges.

"Congratulations! You have been judged mature enough this year to:

[ ] Have sex
[ ] Vote in local elections
[ ] Vote in national elections
[x] Drive
[ ] Drink
[ ] Drink and drive
[x] Choose your own friends
[ ] Cook dinner unsupervised
[ ] Select your own classes
[x] Select your own clothes
[ ] Select your own friends

See you next year for further testing!"

How do you judge if an individual should be allowed to have sex or not?

You never told me how old you are. Was I close? 16? 17?

Because it's oft-used retort when you can't think of anything else to say.

Watch me try: "You're 40 and you live in your parents basement"

Stop being such a stubs and give up already. Your argument is stupid, regardless of its validity.

Yes, because resorting to circular logic, and tired attacks makes you so much better than me. Why don't you go all out and insult my local sports team.

This thread is stupid and full of insult-slinging disguised as argument.

I blame Anna.

You're right. I can't think of anything else to say. I don't know how to explain the age of majority to a complete and total moron who doesn't understand logic and insists that everyone be "tested" to see if they are ready to be intimate with another person.

In what way?

"Select your own friends?" Also 1 year might be too big a gap, maybe bi-annual.

Peer pressure is often times what gets children into trouble.

It doens't help with adults, either, most times...

Runawayfive, this is the part.. well actually 10 posts ago was the part.. where it's time to STFU.

Just because a young girl wants to be with an older man doesn't mean she should be allowed to. Yes, they are able to make plenty of adult(ish) decisions on their own as they're not completely naive to the world at 15, but sex (which is what a relation with a 34 year old man would obviously allude to) is not one of them.

Do you know how easily I could have almost any normal 15 year old girl saying "I love you" in a matter of, say.. 3 weeks? The majority doesn't have the emotional capability of fending off a "charming" sexual predator that's only trying to get one good fUck in. Manipulation is the issue, not the girl's ability to choose.

As for the comment about people magically becoming more mature at 18 was correct, 18 year olds are still pretty naive to everything.. but there's a world of difference from 15-18.

Well, sure. At some point in childhood/early adolescence your parents probably encourage or discourage certain friends, right?

I'm probably going to get flamed like Nagasaki for this..................

After reading this a couple things occur to me.

1. Everyone keeps talking about a 40 year old MAN and a 15 year old GIRL. Seems to me on the news there is a FEMALE teacher who ran off with her 13 year old MALE student, so lets not just assume everyone who like the yungins is male.

2. Up until the last hundred years ago, the age disparity..even in THIS country...between newlyweds was usually wife age x2=husband age. Ever read Little House on the Prairie? Lil' Laura was 14/15 when sexy ol' Alanzo started seeing her. He was 30+.

3. For all you peeps screaming about how an adult being attracted to someone significantly younger is sick, twisted, immoral and against societal norms...try to remember all your ghey friends, since that was the prevailing wisdom on them until a few years ago. See also mixed race relationships.

Now, I'm not advocating bumpin uglies with children. This thread started as a discussion of people who have an attraction, not people who go rape kids. I trust you can tell the difference.

Pretty much the reason I felt it didn't belong on the list. (also try telling your kid not to be friends with them, about as effective as telling them not to watch cartoons.)

I could have any thirty-five year old woman saying they love me within three weeks. They probably shouldn't be allowed to vote.
