Demented old woman with a hammer. How difficult is it for one officer to position himself in front to keep her attention, while another sneaks up behind and disarms her without forcing electricity through her body or causing her to collapse? Not very fUcking difficult. How much fun is it? Not as much fun as zapping the crazy old bicth, apparently.

Unfortunately we weren't there so we can't tell exactly what happened. Who knows, maybe they could've disarmed her without using a taser. Demented people can be surprisingly strong and agile, even at 82. Heck, my grandmother is 80 and I wouldn't be able to take her if she had a hammer.

It's not exactly hard to get a hammer from an 82 year old woman. Assuming this isn't superwoman of course.

Which of course you're doing. It's easy to render judgement based on the assumption that a manual disarm wouldn't have harmed the cops or granny at all. That the granny wasn't a former Mossad agent, hadn't trained under Helio Gracie in Brazil, or hadn't just been released from jail after serving a 35-year sentence for triple homicide with a blunt object.

If she was younger, yeah, use the taser because she's probably a lot faster and more dangerous.

I doubt you'd (you'd being my generic strawman for some arguments) accept it then. If she were younger your excuse would be "she's just a woman". If a small male it would be "compare his size to that of the officers".

Theories of threat based on size, age, gender, or disposition work great on paper, but the real world is a little different.
