Ok, I'm dumb. I just saw the Rosie to get new show, and ran with it before I read all of this guys post. And I saw this...

MSNBC is a distant third with 505,000

Ouch, even for cable that's some horrid numbers.

That quote (if true) just further goes to show what I said about MSNBC, that they don't need huge numbers to stay on air. As they have NBC to fall back upon, until they have had numbers like that for awhile. And being on Cable/Satellite helps as well.

Ouch. ><

LOL, yeah I'm positive Rosie's show won't do any good numbers at all. It won't last long.

It always puzzled me as to why talk shows got such great ratings on television, but just the opposite on the radio.

Why would that puzzle you? It's a totally different audience.

To me, a talk show is more suited for radio, because of the design of television. Allow me to explain.

I watch television to watch something that would ultimately be too difficult or unrealistic to explain on radio. However, talk shows, while having a great range of different emotions, doesn't require a visual. I don't need to *see* Dr. Drew talk on his show 'Love Line' to get the crux of what he is talking about.
I totally agree that talk shows are suited well to radio, since you don't need to see the people who are talking.

However, the majority of radio listeners are just tuning in to listen to music. They don't want a show of any kind anymore, they're just using it to help pass the drive/ride to and from work. It's not that it doesn't fit, it just has to do with the situations in which people choose to turn on their TVs and radios.

I, regarding Rosie, once wrote:
I heard a rumor (rumor alert!) on another forum that she is backing funding for a theatrical release of the Loose Change video. Complete FOAF there -- the guy said he heard it on the radio.

Regardless, why is this woman still on television? I guess she had a place in the past for housewives who wanted to watch someone swoon over Hollywood hunks (faux swoon anyway), sing show tunes and throw Koosh balls but she has since turned into this shrill, aggressive, obnoxious beast of a woman. And I don't mean physically -- she has the temperament of a wild boar. And she's ignorant. Frighteningly, frighteningly ignorant.
My opinion of her hasn't changed since then. I guess someone must think that it's compelling or entertaining but I, for the life of me, can't figure out why people would pay her for anything. If she was a nobody in a bar acting as she does, I'd be trying my damnest to avoid her and hope she got thrown out.

She's like the characters on Seinfeld. They're funny to watch, but if you ever met someone like that in real life, you'd be keeping an eye out for the ripple effect of Darwinism and trying not to get caught in it. Although, she's not really all that funny, but I suppose some people see her that way.

I think most people watch television to be mindlessly entertained, and to stay up on the latest gossip.

I have a theory that the flickering television satisfies the primitive part of the brain that remembers staring into camp fires in caves while the shaman tells a story.

That's why I lower my monitor refresh to 20MHz before watching YouTube videos.
