Seriously, but not for a while. Mississippi I mean, not the OoT.. so you can go ahead and get over that.

As I've said before, I hate my job. The money/perks/free Shit is nice, but thankfully I've learned at an early age that the old saying "Money can't buy happiness" couldn't be more true.

I hate being a 9 to 5 drone. I hate having a schedule. I hate files upon files of paperwork. I hate real estate. I hate Mississippi. I hate having a job where I feel I've accomplished nothing, ever.

Well... me and my closer friends (which are all in a pretty similar rut) have come up with what hopes to be a solution. My best bud's dad lives in St. Croix, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands. He's offered Nick and myself a job at an oil refinery down there, basically anyways, he can't actually hire us but can guarantee us jobs. Obviously it's not near the money, but for what I have planned it shouldn't matter.

It's one of those random jobs where you might work for 3 weeks then be off for 2, just depending on production and such. Starting pay is $22.00 and hour, plus $100 a day per diem.. which is decent money I guess. It'd afford me to be a beach bum for as long as I see fit. This wouldn't solve my problem of not feeling accomplished, but fUck it.. I'd be living on an island paradise Smiley: laugh

That's the entire island. It's 28x7 miles with only two towns to speak of.. and plenty of alcohol, beaches, mountains, and puerto rican women.

The only downside I can think of is ending up in some Shithole part of the island as I'm sure there's a good bit of it with all the Rastahs and the like around. But, with myself and 3 friends combining our incomes I'd imagine we could afford a nicer place.

So.. has anyone ever vacationed there?

Any input as to what to watch out for?

We're all flying down in a month or so to check it out for ourselves, barring a TOTAL disappointment, the move is practically a done deal.

I thought you were old enough to be out of university, not just going in?

I'd imagine that sort of lifestyle would get old really fast.

Not if you were 18.

All I can suggest is to watch out for those "Rastahs." I hear you can wind up in a pool of your own blood and your wallet missing if you stray from "touristy" areas without a local watching your back. Could just be rumors, though.

So, do you and your buddies ever get jobs by any means other than nepotism?

It's one thing to make a dumbass life choice when you're 18, but by the time you get to your mid 20's, you should be making better decisions.

I don't understand why you're calling it a dumbass life choice..

I'm not happy here and have a chance to get out. How is this a bad decision?

I'm actually with Kaain on this. I think you should go. Give yourself a chance to think over what you want to do while enjoying yourself and then make a plan.

You want to quit your job and take up this new one because you can be a lazy drunk, who's unemployed half the time. My mistake. That's brilliant.

Exactly. Smiley: smile

This isn't permanent, I just want to be somewhere I can have fun while I figure out what I really want to do with my life.

Plus, if it's an off-shore oil rig, that's one of the more dangerous occupations one can have.

That could potentially make it a big win for the rest of us, too.

Look at it this way. Better he goes and farts around in the Caribbean for a couple of years BEFORE he knocks up Betty Sue Tanorexic, right?

I know if I was living on an island in the Caribbean, I'd find it difficult not to steal a boat and become a pirate. Smiley: nod

I think that's what he should do.
