As I've said before, I hate my job. The money/perks/free Shit is nice, but thankfully I've learned at an early age that the old saying "Money can't buy happiness" couldn't be more true.
I hate being a 9 to 5 drone. I hate having a schedule. I hate files upon files of paperwork. I hate real estate. I hate Mississippi. I hate having a job where I feel I've accomplished nothing, ever.
Well... me and my closer friends (which are all in a pretty similar rut) have come up with what hopes to be a solution. My best bud's dad lives in St. Croix, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands. He's offered Nick and myself a job at an oil refinery down there, basically anyways, he can't actually hire us but can guarantee us jobs. Obviously it's not near the money, but for what I have planned it shouldn't matter.
It's one of those random jobs where you might work for 3 weeks then be off for 2, just depending on production and such. Starting pay is $22.00 and hour, plus $100 a day per diem.. which is decent money I guess. It'd afford me to be a beach bum for as long as I see fit. This wouldn't solve my problem of not feeling accomplished, but fUck it.. I'd be living on an island paradise
That's the entire island. It's 28x7 miles with only two towns to speak of.. and plenty of alcohol, beaches, mountains, and puerto rican women.
The only downside I can think of is ending up in some Shithole part of the island as I'm sure there's a good bit of it with all the Rastahs and the like around. But, with myself and 3 friends combining our incomes I'd imagine we could afford a nicer place.
So.. has anyone ever vacationed there?
Any input as to what to watch out for?
We're all flying down in a month or so to check it out for ourselves, barring a TOTAL disappointment, the move is practically a done deal.
