Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

I always remember the 5th of November, it's always on the calender inbetween the 4th and the 6th of November. No matter how much I try to erase it, it always happens every single year. The 5th of November. ><

Wait... the 5th is a holiday?

I live in america... and for 24 years have never heard, or seen, the 5th being celebrated anywhere around me.

The only time I've heard anything happening on the 5th is when it falls on the first tuesday after the first monday in November... (election day). That or when my birthday (the 3rd) was during the week, and the 5th was Friday or Saturday so my party was then.

In the US, Nov 5th is not technically a holiday, aside from random people with Guy Fawkes masks, and spouting V for Vendetta lines. Not like we get a day off, but still interesting, nonetheless, especially since it is a fairly recent addition.

meeting my quote quota for the day:

I saw some fireworks going off tonight when I was at college. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the 5th; I didn't even realize the date until I got home and saw this thread.
