Land of Confusion by Disturbed and I can't help but think that nothing has changed since Genesis put this song out 20 years ago.

The lyrics are the same. The message is the same. What a dissapointment my generation has become. Sadly, things aren't looking any better today either.

A friend? The same kind of friend that you and Sarya used to play with? Smiley: dubious

No, we haven't heard from her in a long time now. Still in the process of finding a replacement.

This friend used to live in SLC but lives here now and still has a lot of good hookups.

Well there is that big difference in that there is no Soviet Union pointing enough nukes at us to wipe out the world many times over, and thus the world is no longer just one button push away from total destruction at any moment. Thats an awfully nice thing to have going for you.

The Soviet Union was replaced by any number of countries, all with nukes. All capable of making a big hole where we used to be. If anything, there is more tension these days than there were back in the 80's.

There may be more tension in the way of small wars breaking out, or small nations with nukes going to war, or terrorists getting nukes. But no longer a realisitc threat of a full scale nuclear war wiping out humanity, which is what was hanging over our heads back then.

On the contrary, all it takes is one country to launch. Don't think for a second that the backlash from that wouldn't have world wide consequences. They all have, and that is the reason why it hasn't happened.

I was not implying that if one of the small countries that have nukes used them, that it would not be a world changing event. However, for most of us, there would be a world left to be changed. This is a big difference between the nuclear war of 20 years ago which likely would have left no life on the planet, and that was alwys one button push away and was hanging over everyones head for decades prior.

My personal opinion is that you wouldn't want to live after a nuclear war, regardless of size. I've seen Mad Max. I'll pass.

Not-totally-insane Mel Gibson was in that.
