This is the breathtaking story of Daniel Tammet. A twenty-something with extraordinary mental abilities, Daniel is one of the world’s few ... all » savants. He can do calculations to 100 decimal places in his head, and learn a language in a week. This documentary follows Daniel as he travels to America to meet the scientists who are convinced he may hold the key to unlocking similar abilities in everyone. He also meets the world’s most famous savant, the man who inspired Dustin Hoffman’s character in the Oscar winning film ‘Rain Man’.

I watched this video on TV a while ago...
This guy quite literally learned Icelandic at a fluent level in 3 days. I don't know how, I don't know why, but it's amazing.

Seen it too awhile back.
Its cool how he had to "deal" with it growing up due to his family and not just be all 'blah'

That's amazing. My mom met Kim Peak a few weeks ago... She said it was almost scary how he could just rattle off the most random of information.

There are some amazing people around.
Saw something a while back about a kid that had his eyes removed and can "see" by sonar. Clicks his tongue and reacts to the returning echoes like a bat.
Really odd seeing him riding a skateboard in and out of parked cars and playing ball.
Amazingly accurate too.

Funniest one was a guy with a 20 minute memory. He only owned one album. Would play it and forget the start of it by the time it finished. Put it on again and be all "Wow...this is great"

And I've always been a little jealous of the people with minds permanently like a six year old. They always have such a happy look on their faces.

The sonar bit, and the bit about the 20 minute memory both sound fabricated to me. (And both sound like movies that have came out in the last 5 years).

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!
