So I started listening to Dragonforce...Follow

Seriously, that is probably the funniest post that will ever go unread, seeing as it was posted in the dead of night on a saturday. FUcking shame, too, because I am still laughing.

I got a chuckle out of it, so your tree falling when no one was around made a sound because there was, in fact, someone around to hear it. I will speak of this post to any that will listen. My children will grow up reciting it. It shall become gospel. Or not. It could go either way I guess.

I've read it at least seven times now, and it's still funny to me every time.

I'm going to bump this on monday.

Holy ****, it was even funnier the eighth time.

Yea, I was going to mention more. Buckethead is pretty amazing, I was also going to mention Joe Satriani(Guy who taught Steve Vai) but was too lazy to poke at my keyboard.

I like Dragonforce. I also liked the videogame Dragon Force for the Saturn. Good times.

I think Dragonforce are ok but I only ever listen to one of their songs at a time because they all sound exactly the same and they all have about 45 year long annoying guitar solos in them.

From a musics stand point, DragonForce has a shock factor, then after listening to them several more times, you realize it's the same **** over and over again.

When you break down the drum patterns, at first your amazed that he can keep the rhythm and speed as well as he does, but as you continue to listen the the songs, you realize it's the same pattern over and over again.

Same with the dualing guitars. I'm not saying they contain no talent, but what I will say, is that I think in their latest, Inhuman Rampage? I swear 2 songs use the exact note for note solo. The solo techniques they use follow the same pattern and same scale each and every time. There isn't much of a variety.

For those reasons, they are a good band to listen to when you feel like cranking something good through your cars system on that saturday/sunday drive out to no where, but for everyday listening, I couldn't do it.

Yea, I don't typically listen to them much anymore. It's pretty difficult to listen to dragonforce for more than 20 minutes without getting a headache.

These days I "rock out" to Meatloaf and the Goo Goo Dolls.

I think too many times people think speed=amazingness. Kupoback hit it right on, (love the avatar btw) their rhythym and the solos all sound almost identical. Plus they have some ******* greasy *** hair. Honestly....cut that ****.

Speed is the number one issue new musicians have with learning music. Why do I mention this? because when we think speed or hear someone playing a riff amazingly fast, we think, "OMG AMAZING *females rip off their shirts*, and yeah they get those comments and girls, but when musicaians look at their music, they see it's just simple G, C, Am power chords played at 8/4 measures.

And everyone loves Rush, but I offer my love more for Alex than Geddy and Neil, they get enough anyways.

I only listen to one song from Dragonforce, and essentially, I don't need to listen to any others....

More Primus and Pantera for me, then.

The lyrics are essentially "SWORDS ARE MADE OF STEEL", "WE HAVE SHINY ARMOR", and "SLAY THIS DRAGON."

Dragon Force is one of the few bands good enough to be able to get away with ridiculous lyrics. If you're really paying attention to their lyrics, you kinda missed the point. Excellent power metal though.

Don't listen to them only continuously for long periods of time though, their songs work better on a playlist, so they don't become stale/headache inducing.

Interesting info:

1) Overall, few DragonForce songs involve swords or dragons. Off the top of my head I can think of only Starfire, Valley of the Damned, Where Dragons Rule, Black Fire, Soldiers of the Wasteland and Prepare for War that actually mention either, and three of those only talk about "warriors".

2) Not all DragonForce is the same, if you actually bother to listen to them; it's merely a bandwagon thing. For example, Valley of the Damned is nothing like Operation Ground and Pound is nothing like Dawn over a New World is nothing like Fury of the Storm is nothing like Soldiers of the Wasteland. Although there are some amazingly similar songs (Operation Ground and Pound -> Body Breakdown, for example), this does not mean that they are therefore all the same.

3) No matter what you think they sound like, they throw one hell of a ******* concert. They were better than Iron Maiden last time round.

I'm going to focus on number 2 here. I don't remember saying all of their music sounds the same, just a majority. The only thing that is about 98% the same, is the drum pattern. It's just a lot of snare and double bass pedal to the max. While they do slow down their songs a bit, the solo's never seem to change much, and it gets rather boring.

I can't say I know enough about drums to judge. And the solos that don't change much that you are referring to, are they drum or guitar solos? Because the guitar solos vary quite a damn lot (with exceptions, such as in the songs mentioned in the last post.)

Both to be honest.

Drums don't change much at all, and guitars follow the same scales each time it seems.

It's the unfortunate truth. As much as I love the Maiden, their last show in Manchester kinda sucked. Mostly because pretty much all they played was their new album, but as a show they just weren't as good. This time. Let's wait until I see them again.

I listen to the lyrics to distract myself from the super-fast sythesizer sound of the guitar on a lot of their songs. If you're playing fast enough to where it sounds like the intro to Power Rangers, the effect is really silly.
