As much as this judgment makes us smile, "invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress" seems like a pretty shoddy foundation to base it on. Ignoring for a moment
what they were protesting, protesting is essentially what they're being punished for. From what I know of the wording of the ruling, I'm not sure there's much to prevent this same argument from being used against real protesters.
I still kind of wonder if the Westboro Baptist Church isn't a giant prank Fred Phelps is pulling just for the lulz. Everything about them is so over-the-top. Nobody's really that obnoxious, are they?
