Blasphemers and Believers, Catholics, Protestant Whores and Heathens everywhere, who is your patron Saint? I call this thread.

PHUN WITH CATHOLICISM! :D

I would say either Rita of Cascia, as I struggle to bring peace to the OOT. I suffer b/c of Allegory and UsagiSmiley: madSmiley: madSmiley: mad:
Here is what I look like:

Quote:

Among the other areas, Rita is well-known as a patron of desperate, seemingly impossible causes and situations. This is because she has been involved in so many stages of life - wife, mother, widow, and nun, she buried her family, helped bring peace to her city, saw her dreams denied and fulfilled - and never lost her faith in God, or her desire to be with Him.Among the other areas, Rita is well-known as a patron of desperate, seemingly impossible causes and situations.

Alternately, b/c I'm from Seafaring peoples and some Acadian ancestry, I'd say the Star of the Sea.

In those denominations of Christianity that believe in the intercession of saints, the patron saint of a particular group of people is a saint who has special affinity for that group and its members.

For example:
Quote:
Saint Jude (or Judas) is a Christian saint. He is also called Lebbaeus, Thaddaeus, Thaddeus or Judas Thaddaeus. He should not be confused with Judas Iscariot, another apostle and later the betrayer of Jesus.

The Armenian Apostolic Church honours Saint Jude, along with Saint Bartholomew as their patron saint. In the Roman Catholic Church he is the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes.

or

Quote:
Saint Francis of Assisi (September 26, 1181 – October 3, 1226) was a Roman Catholic friar and the founder of the Order of Friars Minor, more commonly known as the Franciscans.

He is known as the patron saint of animals, birds, and the environment, and it is customary for Catholic churches to hold ceremonies honoring animals around his feast day of October

I thought this was going to be one of those online quizzes.

Apparently there are too many saints for me to look through, so I can't tell you who mine would be.

Hmmm, as I am against organized relegion, I have no clue. If it was a Saint that invented Beer, that would probably have to be it.

Profile
Missionary to Paris. First Bishop of Paris. His success roused the ire of local pagans, and he was imprisoned by Roman governor. Martyred in the persecutions of Valerius with Saint Rusticus and Saint Eleutherius. Legends have grown up around his torture and death including one that has his body carrying his severed head some distance from his execution site. Saint Genevieve built a basilica over his grave. His feast was added to the Roman Calendar in 1568 by Pope Saint Pius V, though it had been celebrated since 800. One of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
Died
beheaded c.258 at Montmarte (= mount of martyrs); his corpse was thrown in the Seine, but recovered and buried later that night by his converts; relics at the monastery of Saint Denis
Patronage
against frenzy, against strife, France, headaches, hydrophobia; Paris, possessed people, rabies

insert informative post:

a patron saint is a saint who is prayed to for a specific reason, like St, Jude is the patron saint of Lost Causes.
almost all saints are patrons of something, and most are patrons of multiple things.
now, please continue to spread your merry-making mayhem, so that it may be laughed at.

wow.... who'da thought i'd actually use something from cathlic school...
time to go back to being atheist....

back on topic:

sweet lord Baby Jesus is my patron saint

Even as an atheist, the Catholic faith has always seemed cool and mysterious to me. Growing up in georgia, where near everyone is not only a protestant, but also baptist, I never really got the jive of the religious scene. It's just so plain: believe in god and accept jesus or you are @#%^ed. Catholicism always seems to have these really neat stories and such a mythos associated with it that it's interesting to talk about even if I don't believe in god.

Yes, yes, grass is always greener and such. I know.
