Ok so, I've never asked you for anything before. Ever. Mostly because I know you're all mostly brain-dead.

Let's see if you actually have what it takes to provide me a solution for once.
For a Cisco Router ACL, I want to unblock access to a FQDN instead of an IP.

The command for an IP to do this is :

access-list [list#] permit ip host XXX.XXX.XXX.XX any

What is it for a FQDN?

2 rate ups for the first right answer.

Go!

I'm guessing access-list # permit host hostname doesn't work with an FQDN?

I'm almost curious enough to walk across the hall and ask one of the cisco engineers if they know.

Not sure. I like to be sure before modding the ACL rules.

Now I'm having mixed feelings about you Mindel. I've always assumed that you are in most likelihood, a woman. Your knowing how to speak geek is either going to make me very hot, or it is going to reinforce the fact that there are no wominz on the interwebs.

I'm perplexed. Smiley: dubious

So it is indeed safe to feel all hot and bothered? Excellent. I shall complete the "Approval to be hot and bothered" form forthwith.

I have now figured out a solution to this dilemma. Only Mindel shall receive rate ups, but that is just for being incredibly sexy.

I'd be curious to hear your solution. As far as I'm aware, Cisco IOS does not support domain names in access-list commands. You can create an alias using the "name" command, but it is a hard coded name to IP resolution, and does not allow for the dynamic resolution of domain names.

I routed the traffic up YOUR MOTHER's gaping information super-highway. Then I interfaced with her com port.

True story.

That and I just re-routed traffic through a VPN connection that had a static end point at each end, but allowed for FQDN resolution upon initial connection. Yes, I'm that good.

Rerouted what traffic? Tell me you did not just redirect all outbound traffic through a VPN for the sole sake of allowing a particular domain name by way of DNS.

Smiley: lol

No. I have a satellite office that uses a VPN tunnel to get informashunz. Up until recently, they had a static IP, so I only routed very specific traffic over the tunnel, the rest I allowed in through the public access ports with blanket rules to allow them open port access to a few public servers for things like FTP, SSH, etc. I've just routed all inbound traffic from that particular point to go over the VPN tunnel instead of traffic splitting. The little bit of overhead traffic generated for the encryption was insignificant.

Therefore, I stuck my 2 fingers in one and 1 in the other of your mom's parallel ports. She likes it rough.
