I know some of you have probably had this experience, who am I kidding, some of you got married to each other because "no one else could possibly understand" the existence of the OOT.
So I tried to get on Skype last night but my Fiance get probing me to see why I needed to log of WoW last night to "talk". I tried to explain to him that I know this group of people on the forum I post at and they have a "talking night" that I would like to attend. I tried the best I could to break it down small enough for him to understand but alas he just thought I was crazy. And then he forbade me to ever "talk" to you guys out of fear for the "crazies" on the intrawebz. I am sure that I could go without doing skype as I have never tried it before, but I just thought it was difficult to get the point of the OOT across to my fiance.
Anyone else have trouble explaining to their better half exactly what this forum is and what we do here? He just didn't get that we don't just sit around and talk about games all day long, there are actually important issues being discussed. How could he not think that Singdall's 101 technology threads were important or that Mindel's socks have become something of legend?
Bah, he'll never understand.

The only way to get him to understand without pretense is to encourage him to post here. Only then can he discover the bastion of insanity that is the OOT. Oh.. wait....

Yeah my wife kind of looks at me funny when I talk about the OoT. When it comes to Skype and all that there are some things that I won't do when she is around. Not because I am chatting with you all and some are females but I don't think I could sit in a room and chat with other people while she sits around alone. We cherish our time together.

Well, one way to make sure you will never be "allowed" to speak to the internet crazies (we don't fool anyone but ourselves, apparently) would be for him to actually read anything here on the OoT.

Yeah this is pretty much how I feel. I just wanted to give it a shot for a few minutes because we were right in the middle of questing on WoW, well not right in the middle...we were on a short break. When he comes home it's our time so we always do everything together.

The Hell kind of moran can't type words on a forum. I mean hell, we have Hellboi bashing his face on the computer most of the time, and that counts as "posting on a forum."

I'd definitely prefer a husband that doesn't understand to mine. He totally understands the OoT and alla in general. But the issue is he doesn't like it. So generally I chat on the laptop so I don't have to do it in the same room as him. Until *someone* broke the connector to my laptop's power supply. /sigh
Generally, speaking, if he has no problems with you playing any MMO, then use that as leverage that internet crazies are everywhere. You've been going this long without an incident, why should VoIP change that? If that doesn't work, then tell him no sex until you can VoIP ;P (unless he's like my husband and doesn't care about that threat).

Watch it now. You're talking about the love of my life. I didn't say he couldn't type, but I don't think he would really get the point of an internet forum. I am 26 but he is 11 years older than me so meh he just didn't grow up attached to a PC like I did.

He is very overprotective mostly due to his latin background so thats the main reason for not wanting me to talk over the internet. He tells me to double lock the door when I come home probably 5 times on average per day because I get home before him in the evenings. This is what I am dealing with. I don't mind because it's sexy but I just think it's funny that he thinks you guys are so danegrous.

I can somewhat understand the skype worries. That's a bit more than posting on the internets. I mean, Anna's mom did get a phone call from a psycho, after all.
