Aikmen's been doing that since his first day as a commentator. He's an idiot, that benefited from playing with one of the top 3 rb's of all time and one of the better WR's of all time too.

Smiley: glare He was a damn fine quarterback in his day. Intelligence has never been a prerequisite in sports.

He was a Rothlesberger. He benefited from playing on a great team. He's no Marino, Elway or Favre. I'm not saying he's crap, but he wasn't exceptional.

Emmitt is in no way one the three greatest backs of all time. I don't know that he makes the top ten if not for his statistics. He's not even the best of his era. Both he and Aikman benefited from playing behind one the greatest lines of all time, but Aikman still had far more impact on that team than Emmitt did, evidenced by the fact that they went downhill as soon as Troy was gone, even though Emmitt remained.

But yeah, he's a pretty horrible commentator.

I'll agree with you on Emmitt, but its those stats people will remember 20 years from now. Just like those Super Bowl wins that give Montana the nod over Marino in most people's eyes (dumbasses). As for Aikmen > Emmitt, I don't know. Emmitt was at the end of his career when Aikman retired and a lot of other great players from that team were gone then too, or aging as well. Hard to say an aging RB made less of an impact in his career on his team than an aging QB. What's the life span of most RBs, 10 years before they sharply decline?

I'd say he was exceptional. Closest comparisons imo are Tom Brady and Joe Montana. Still, exceptional being top 50 QBs, not top 10. I'd say he was more exceptional than Emmitt too, who was only "one of the best" because he happened to have a long career to pad stats with. Emmitt would be top 50 though.

Aikman is a moron though. And the Cowboys suck, go Skins!

Best of all time:

QB:
1. Brett Favre
2. Peyton Manning
3. Steve Young
4. John Elway
5. Todd Marinovich

RB:
1. Barry Sanders
2. Jim Brown
3. Walter Payton
4. Marshal Faulk
5. Christian Okoye

WR:
1. Jerry Rice
2. Marvin Harrison
3. Andre Reed
4. Art Monk
5. Az-Hakir Saddam bin Laden Hakim
