I have some music, but as far as collections go it certainly isn't much and some of it (like the Gorillaz, say) I listen to only once in a green moon.

I've been browsing HMV and Virgin, but I can't really decide what to pick up. The "Metal" sections seem to include a lot of stuff that isn't actually metal. Like the OOT of albums, it gets all the rejects from the other sections that fall into the grey area under it's juridstriction.

So, I'm currently loving the S&M Metallica CD I picked up 2 weeks ago and some of the newer Iron Maiden stuff (Dance of Death album etc).

Now I don't want to shell out 15 quid for a CD that turns out to be a bunch of emos screaming down their mikes about how some girl shoved one of their ********* into a hosepipe yet it doesn't compare to their bleeding heart (because there was a queue of people waiting to stab them...).

So to the point; what's some good stuff?

Also anything like REM is welcome, REM is always good.

Ummm...dowload the music for free from limewire (its safe I have used it for 2 years with no viruses) and then if you like the music you can go and buy the CD therefore supporting the artists. This is what I do.

I've been listening to the Mortal Kombat: Annihilation soundtrack lately. I don't really pay attention to the new stuff anymore.

If they would change up their sound a little bit I'd definitely pick up their new CD, but they're starting to sound like all the other main stream bands Smiley: frown

P2P not allowed at Uni, copyright issues.

I'll have a look at some Foo Fighters if I can get a hold of any. Got the newest Chillis CD. Who are 3 days grace?

Check out Remy Zero. They broke up a few years ago, but if you like REM you'll like them, especially their second (Villa Elaine) and third (The Golden Hum) albums.

Three Days Grace.

Sorry for the Myspace link, but it's the quickest way to hear 3-4 full songs by any given band. All four they have up are kickass Smiley: thumbsup

I like Godsmack, however, song 1 thru whatever all sound a like, so you either like or you don't.

Metallica, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Aerosmith pre-1986 are all good choices too. Also, check out Lenny Kravitz. Anything by him is good. He's got to be one of the most talented musicians around.

Remy Zero is AWESOME!!!! I have their mainstream album as well as their bootleg stuff. I have even managed to ctach them in concert 4 times. Great band!

I also particularly enjoy the song called Running up that Hill which I believe is Kate Bush/someone else. Someone here might have the link.

Napster is pretty good these days. It's not P2P, you pay $10 US dollars a month for a subscription, unlimited streaming, 99cents per track burned, and they have several million songs in their database. I'd strongly recommend it over any of it's p2p cousins.

However, there are certain labels/bands you just won't find there because they're not wise to the way today's industry works. I like to call them musical dinosaurs. Metallica is one of them.

Alison Krauss and Robert Plant are releasing a collaboration. I've only heard two songs from it, but the weird combination actually works. Not metal, but a lot of energy.

John Doe formerly of X has a new CD out, or coming out soon. I don't know if you know him, but he's one of the smartest, funniest musicians around.

Yes yes but Lars is still a drumming god. From a musical standpoint anyway. Band's position on music sharing just sucks.

You can compare no one to the mightiness that is The Who. But in musical talent and ability, Lars is leaps and bounds ahead of moon just based on the double bass factor alone.

Now the one armed drummer ...thats talent. Pantera I believe.

Smiley: oyvey You mean Def Leppard?

As for metal drummers, the old drummer for Cradle of Filth is disgustingly good. Adrian Erlandsson, I believe. Neil Peart from Rush is pretty nasty, too.

I would put Neil Peart on my top ten list. Very good drummer imo Smiley: grin

You were right about Def Leopard. I could not think for the life of me the name of his band. Smiley: banghead

Keith Moon would be #2 on the list right behind Lars. Are you a drummer?

In case no one else suggested it already, this thread urgently requires more Rush.

Also, Midicronica is quite good, although lately I've been listening to a lot of STP.

No, but I stayed at a Holiday inn Express last night?

I played violin for 10 years, and saxophone for 9. They overlapped somewhere in the middle, with me playing saxophone in high school. My saxophones are still sitting in their cases in my bedroom. I've been considering getting stands for them, with my theory being that if they're set up, I'd pick 'em up and play for maybe 10, 15 minutes a day. Playing music is one of those things that I miss doing, but never really think about unless I'm already busy and don't have the opportunity to play (such as when I'm at work). I briefly considered going to school for music education, but somehow decided that electrical engineering would be better. /facepalm
