Blackbeard Ale. nice semi dark rich bier. good clean smooth flavor, little light on the head, and NO nasty after taste. clean and refreshing.

i found it while at the local Albertson (local food chain) and was looking for something new that comes in long neck dark bottles in preperation for the brewing of my Imperial Stout. need long neck bottles and i prefer dark over green or clear for homebrews.

this was at a good price ($5.99 for a 6pack) vs some of the other brews that were in the $9 range for a six pack of stuff i have not tried yet.

enjoy a good brew.

This is what I was drinking last night.

Good stuff, although after a dozen or so it could taste like burnt diarrhea and I'd never notice.

just had some of this last week and it was good:

http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/st-bernardus-abt-12/2530/

you can tell it is a hand brewed beer by the silt left in the bottom of the bottles. if you are not aware of how to pore these brews you end up with a rather bitter flavor in the beer.

if you pore it correctly you get a fantastic taste.

I tried this last week, and while it was good the first couple, it left a horrible aftertaste after like 4 or so.

Been drinking this for the past couple days, really good!

Singdall you should look into getting swing top bottles (like Grolsch) They are 16oz and reusable. They sell them @ most home brew shops and online. They are brown glass.

yeah i have a dozen of them already from my first batch over a decade ago.

i like a combination of the 12 and 16oz bottles as some of the brews come out with a mega head on them and you can not get a clean pore with a 16oz bottle that way in most of the glasses i have at the house. the best thing about the 12oz bottles is if the head comes out to thick (more then 3in) i can still get a perfect pore in my 1Pt mug.

ANy IPA worth its salt would never be put in a clear or green bottle.

Stone IPA
Dogfish Head 60 Minute
Harpoon IPA
Victory Hop Devil
Boulder Mojo IPA
Great Divide Titan IPA
Sierra Nevada Anniversary (great offering)
Acme IPA

all good choices.

I like the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. The place I usually go drinking has the 60 Minute on tap, which is delicious as well.

what is the difference between the 60, 90, or 120 min IPA?

the dogfish head 120 minute is also a killer beer as far as IPA goes

(the difference has to do with how long the beer is hopped during brewing if i am not mistaken. and i believe the 120 minute is a continuous hopping, tho don't quote me on this)

another good choice is the Two Hearted Ale brewed by Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo.

seems to only be availabe withing two states of michigan tho. i have to drive for

2 hours to Kentucky in order to buy it.

Well, the Dogfish Head site says that the 120 minute IPA is boiled for 2 hours while being continuously hopped. It is also 20% ABV. The 90 minute IPA is only 9% ABV.

ok how does hopping for 2hrs increase the ABV? as far as i understand it is the amount of sugar with the yeast to digest thus producing more alcohol.
