I've been considering putting some money into online poker, and have been playing the free games on Bodog, Full Tilt, and PokerStars, but you can't really gauge the real money play by the play money play. I was wondering if anyone on here plays, and what site(s) you play on. I've been kind of leaning towards Bodog, because they have a sportsbook too, but that could be a bad thing since I'm likely to lose any poker winnings betting on sports. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'll get back to you. Right now I'm imagining what the world would be like if your name were "boywithoutacomputer."

I can honestly say my father is addicted to online poker. His excuse is that it’s training for the tournaments he attends.

Well, if we look past Mindel's entry of lulz, I might take a whack at the topic at hand.

I won't play Online Poker for money at all. I can't really with good consciousness support websites where half the players are addicted to gambling and play themselves out of house and home. The money I could win would in all likelyhood be taken from some poor sap that can't stop playing even though he obviously doesn't have the skill nor economy to support it.

I play with friends and people I know can take the loss without getting into trouble, financially.

I want to play poker with you. That way, if I lose, I can cry and tell you that you're taking food from the mouths of my children, and you'll give it all back to me.

I play most weekends, work on the basis that most online player utterly and completely suck and you can't go far wrong.

Play ultra tight, on put money down on premium starting hands and only play turns and rivers if you hit the flop.

You can NEVER EVER EVER bluff online, people will happily go all in with bottom pair and you only feed them by chasing straight and flush draws to the river.

Example:- Saturday night played for 1 and half hours played 3 hands total to the river each time with the nuts and ended up with over 3 times what i started with.

I ended up with quad Q's with A kicker (hold cards where Q/10 suited i was big blind) the guy next to me went all in with K/5 after the following AQQ 3 Q. It wasn't pretty. Online play promoted idiotic play, my regular live play gang usually make loads of money online and none of us are exactly "Pro's"

I play on 888.com

I understand you point, but thinking about it, I really don't have much compassion for people addicted to gambling. I suppose the only thing that would bother me would be the other people (family members, etc.) affected by their affliction. I guess it's wrong to be taking advantage of them, but with the anonymity of the internet, it's not like you really know which people are the ones gambling their lives away and which players are able to afford it. I suppose that the people with gaming addictions would be playing at the higher stakes anyway. Of course, this could all just be a load of bullshit that I'm feeding myself to justify playing online.

I've played in live tournaments and at live ring games at Foxwoods and never really thought that I was taking advantage of people with gaming addictions. Perhaps I was, but it never crossed my mind. I don't imagine that playing online, I would be taking advantage of a larger number of addicts. I do play against my friends, but games against people I don't know is more of a challenge, and one which I enjoy.

I use partypoker.com they seem to have realistic hands. First started playing on betfair 'cos I bet on sports too, but every other winning hand on their poker seems to be a straight or higher.

Online poker is very different from face to face.

Bleh, my two younger brothers and my mother's husband all when through a phase of lots of online poker (Full Tilt and Pokerstars) and frankly, I find it about as entertaining as watching golf or fishing on TV. It was disgusting how much time they sunk into it and it drove me crazy when I'd go to visit. The youngest one (15-16 at the time) would either be playing it online or watching it on TV. I was worried that they'd all become gambling addicts. (My father was a gambling addict and lost thousands and thousands of dollars that he didn't have.)

Fortunately it seems to have run its course for the most part.

Personally I think that would be 100x more effective if a guy did it instead of a girl.

Oddly enough, my father is the same and uses the same excuse. He plays on UltimateBet.com and Full-Tilt Poker.

You mean if a guy cried to a girl begging for his money back? Maybe. But crying to another guy would likely just get him kicked out of the place.

Yeah I meant to the opposite sex. Girls crying doesn't work really on other girls, unless you happen to be one of those over nurturing types, in which case you shouldn't be playing poker anyways I guess.

(P.S. I have no clue how to play poker, only euchre atm.)

I dont gamble online, nor do I really like poker for that matter.

Sheepshead is the only game for me. Also, I think its a law of nature that you have to live in Wisconsin to even remotely have any idea of how to play the game.

partypoker.com is a good site, you can't go wrong. They have all options you can think of, tournaments, sit and go tables, etc.

What I dislike with online poker is that people won't take it as seriously as they would face to face. You see stuff online that you wouldn't see in real life, like retarded pre-flop bets. I hate that.

Why not? They're going to lose their money anyways. It might as well go to schmuck like you to spend it on something worthwhile, like hookers and booze.
