The wife and I are kind of skeptical about buying a home, as neither of us are quite sure where it is we want to live, or if we'll be able to afford a good home in a place we do finally settle down in, so we still rent. []
Never ever buy a home if you're not sure about it. That's all that can really be said on that subject. A home loan is a big deal.
While I agree that sure, a loan is a big deal, I don't think there's any reason to not buy a house if you can afford it. Not being sure of where you want to live doesn't need to be a consideration. My first house was in the ghetto, and it was rundown. It was a repo in a suburb of Colorado Springs and I got it cheap. I lived it in only long enough to rennovate it enough to make it a successfull rental property, and then I put it back on the market, meanwhile, I rented a cottage downtown. When it sold, I made 20k, and promptly blew that on coke and hookers.
Okay, not really, the 20k went toward the fourplex, which is basically my retirement plan. What I'm saying is, I think you're always better off paying off a home loan than you are paying rent, even if you don't plan on settling down in the property.
Settling down is for pUssies and married people though, anyway.
