So last night, Borat came on HBO. My husband wanted to see it, I was never terribly interested, so it stayed on while we both played on our respective computers.

So my question is:

Do you like Borat?
Yes, Oh lawd he's hilarious! :12 (25.0%)
I like him okay. I think he goes too far sometimes. :21 (43.8%)
I don't know who this "Borat" character is at all. / Meh. :1 (2.1%)
I dislike him more often than not, but I don't want him to die in a fire.:5 (10.4%)
I want him to die in a fire.:9 (18.8%)
Total:48

I found the movie to be a long version of the Tom Green show. A very long version... Some of what happened would've been a lot funnier, if it had been scripted and the people being made to look like idiots were in on the joke. I'm not a big fan of people making money off of other peoples discomfort. I don't find that humorous.

The whole 'naked wrestling' part was a little much for me. Other than that it was pretty good.

See, that one was sort of funny.

The part where he breaks a bunch of stuff in that guys store and loses him money, not so much.

Sacha Baron Cohen was funny as Jean Girard in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby but other then that, I don't like him or his characters. Da Ali G show incites rage.

I think the one of the funniest parts was when he stops at a lady who is having a yard sale and demands her tears calling her a gypsy, and then picks up a barbie asking if it was the original owner of the house that the lady shrank using her gypsy magic.

You know the producers were in there immediately after with a big checkbook to smooth things over. It's like Jackass, MTV goes in afterwards and takes care of the money thing.

Yeah, the naked wrestling thing was so...uncomfortable.

I didn't even realize that was him in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I was mostly refering to his movie, as last night was the first time I saw it.

I didn't like it much.

Agreed. The entire movie is worth watching just for that scene...my stomach hurt from laughing.

However, I wanted to claw my eyes out after the naked fight scene.

I didn't like Borat either but I had to pay props for Ricky Bobby.

That's true, but it still seems rude and extremely unfunny to me.

I enjoyed him doing the talkshow circuit when the movie came out, but I suspected that I'd get bored of the schtick by the time I sat through an hour and a half of it. So yeah, I skipped Borat.

I have been unable to watch past the rodeo speech point. Every single time (3 attempts now) I get to that point, I hit a stupid overload and turn it off.

Something that was better than the movie was the drama that ensued afterwards.

Like the college kids who made those racist remarks.

From all reports, it sounded as if I should have loved this film: a smart, satirical look at American culture said to be wickedly funny.

In reality, I suffered through the first 40min in boredom before turning it off.

The gypsy tears part was classic movie watching and it ranks right up there with the Team America doll sex.

Apart from that scene: He can take a long walk off a short pier.

I've never watched the movie, as it just doesn't look very interesting. I remember when they first started previewing it.. it looked great, but after more and more previews came out it seemed annoying.

I'll get around to it one day.

The movie actually got one of the local news station employees here fired Smiley: laugh

Apparently in the movie it says they're in North Dakota or something at the particular moment, but they're actually in Jackson, MS. Borat asked the lead anchor "Where to urinate?," hugged him, and went to the bathroom. Whoever it is that screens guests was fired the next day.

She was suing everyone and their mother over it, but I'm not sure if she won. I'm sure she received some sort of settlement.

See, that's why this movie didn't seem all that funny to me. You know that MTV trumped this guy up and lied to her to get him on air. And what results? Someone loses their job... Smiley: oyvey

That was a pretty good scene.

Doll ******** humor isn't funny either. So I'm going with my original assessment: The whole movie sucks donkeyass.

Yep. Most of the people on the movie didn't even know the movie existed/was in production until it hit theaters. The crew wasn't telling all the "victims" afterwards, rather just letting them be surprised that they're in a huge movie.

I heard something about them not needing permission to show most of the unsuspecting faces in the movie, since the majority of people were public figures and in the instances where he was in their home.. they had invited the cameras in.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the "Running of the Jew" scene. That, and the scene where they stay at the Jewish people's hotel were the funniest things in the movie to me. Smiley: lol

I had to laugh, because it was so stupid.
