Just wanted to remind people, that there are some people out there right now who could probably really use whatever help you can spare. Yeah, there's more than a few pets, too.

San D Humane Society

Some local Jesus-y org

Another local charity suggested by a friend.

North County Humane Society

I'll probably try and dig up more, but you can always give to a national organization, too. Red Cross, etc, if you don't mind their overhead.

I just heard on the news that this year 40% of the USA is in drought, when usually no more than 10-15% of the USA is in drought at any given time?

Pikko, while often busy, is good at organizing things like that...

And to think, we all thought the end of California would be a massive earthquake that would remove it from the North American continent.

CNN ran an article about how the television industry would be affect by this. It kind of made me sick.

I know the south east is pretty critical. California isn't technically in a drought this year, but we're counting on probably unrealistic levels of rain and snow to keep from sliding into drought conditions next year. A few places are asking for voluntary water rationing at the moment.

I know you're not in the fire area Sam, but do you have any family or friends down that way?

I prefer to wait for FEMA to help out these poor souls. Lord knows the Federal Government can handle it.

Don't forget floods and tornadoes! And whatever you do, don't fly - NASA won't even release their report on the dangers of flying because they don't want to scare people and potentially disrupt the air travel industry.

And of course car accidents and drunken stupidity, both of which are far more likely to kill you than all of the above combined.

I must admit, the fires are kinda keeping me worried. My brother-in-law and nieces live in that area of CA. And my mother-in-law is not telling us anything about what's going on without us prying it out of her with a crow bar.

Actually, that whole "It's safer to fly than drive to the Airport" thing is just misused statistics. I don't have the article at hand, but it was a report from someone checking the statistical grounds for that saying. Turns out that a higher percentage of people die per flight than people die in car accidents. It was slightly complicated, involving travel distance, the number of cars vs planes and so on. But in the end, getting in a plane was far more dangerous than driving the distance.

The deathcount has been extremely low. Thank god, or whatever. However roughly one million people have been displaced so far. I don't have stats on stranded pets.

This is real, folks, your fellow people (and pets) need you.

As in there are some stupid ***** on this board who have an ego to uphold and must therefore shun any call for compassion toward their fellow man. Seriously, if you think making wisecracks about **** like this is funny, you are a sad sad individual.
