Will I be able to run FFXI with any success with this system?

You don't have a Video Card. At least I don't think you do. That sounds like a Mother Board run graphics.

You won't be able to run FFXI

The moment you install FFXI, you enter a world of failure that's nigh impossible to escape.

I already play it on Xbox Smiley: tongue, I just think it might be neat for my friend to be able to come over and play as well, as he plays on PC.

It runs fine on processor/mobo built in graphics. The system can probably handle it, but there is a good chance at lag issues.

In my experience FFXI will run on very minimal requirements. One thing to be concerned about though, is that it takes up a LOT of space on your hard drive. With only 80 gigs, a good chunk of that will need to be reserved for FFXI. WOW should also run.....decent...but with either one, you're most likely not going to be able to run the higher video settings. There will probably be some lag. My laptop has integrated graphics with shared memory as well, and as long as I keep the graphics settings down, the game runs fine.

Thank you guys for your responses. I'm honestly trying to find a PC that won't absolutely raep my credit card...This is the most sensible one I could find.

I have a cheap $500 Toshiba laptop running FFXI. I did max out the ram on it though which made a world of diffrence.

1.60GHz Celeron
Vista basic
2gig Ram
ATI Radeon Xpress 200m (128mb)

It's by far nothing to write home about, but it was free and beggars can't be choosers. If this will play it I'm sure yours will be able to also.

If you buy that one, it would be easy to get a new vid card and have a pretty decent machine. How much are you looking to spend?

PC or Notebook?

that will ONLY depend on if the MB has enough expansion slots.

typically that low of a system will not have an AGP expansion slot let alone a PCI-e.

just spend the money and build a rig yourself.

AMD or Intel 64bit DC (dual core) CPUs will do fine. avoid duron and celeron as they are both gimped.

2G ram

PCI-e video card
sATA or sATA II hard drives
winXP Pro as you already have it no need to waist money on the OS again.

in all you can build a rig for around $400- $600 and have a rig that can play FFXI and WoW with zero problems.

Some of the older intel graphics cards onboard lack Hardware texture and Lighting controll, which FFXI requires for play. The newer ones do not have the same problem. That one is probably right on the edge.

Though I have a lvl... wait, can you give an account away for free on this?
#14 Oct 22 2007 at 6:11 AM Rating: Decent
I can't tell if that's a serious question or not, but either way.. So long as the account isn't exchanging hands for any monetary value, yes with grey areas. Technically accounts aren't ever supposed to change hands directly, but at least in EQ and WoW they make exceptions to the rule if everything looks cut, dry, and clean.

I'm dead serious, I'll give my FFXI account info away for free. I've tried to get back in that game, I just can't bring myself to do it. So ***** it.

I'll leave it as an offering for the OOT if it is allowable.

Making it public information is something they wouldn't allow in any way. All ToS's for all MMO's state that no accounts are to be shared. (If you're sharing accounts with someone, even a relative, keep it under your hat.)

Passing it off individually to someone actually trying to get in to the game may work. Otherwise not likely.

It should run ok. The system you have is really setup for business.
Vostro is Dells business line.
I'd have gotten the XPS system instead. They have a seperate video card and have great gamming results.

I'm sure you could find someone. I on the other just canceled my ID's for the second time and I don’t care to pay the activation of another account. You could always let it fall away into the abyss of forgotten accounts.

What's your highest level?

I'm in the same boat now. I really want to get psyched about playing again, but I still haven't got a job to 75 yet, and the crap exp you get, even from partying, has really just made the game such a bore. I mean, seriously, how many friggin crawlers do I have to kill to get to 75? I've thought about trashing my account, because that's just another $15 out of my pocket every month, but can't bring myself to just throw it all down the tubes.

73 or 74 Black Mage. I've got decent gear on it.

Removed redundancy.

Just to let people know.
Dell resells returned systems. They are discounted from the New prices
You can get them as
1. Preorder new (Customer returned unopened to dell)
2. Reconditioned Telesales (Minor repairs, costomer broke factory seal on system)
3. Scratch and dent. (Systems have scratches and inperfections that exceed the Telesales criteria.) System works fine just has scratches and rubs ext..

These systems are up to 20+% less than new and more when on sale.
I've purchased all my systems from the Outlet for in some cases 1/2 of new prices.

One can get an XPS gaming system for under a grand or more depending upon the model.

I honestly went to the Dell website, and built my own computer(as cheap as I could see fit). I'm trying to keep it under $500, seeing as how that's damn near an entire paycheck and I do have to pay all my own bills. Thank you everyone for your input.
