Hehehe, my system is completely clean. A full reformat happened less than a month ago, and AVG Antivirus/Spyware both agree that my system is fine.

Wow, been hearing about this for awhile.

Just installed it on my Work Comp, which NEVER shuts down so you aught to get plenty of cycles out of it, I'll install it on all of my Test machines for ya too :)

I envy all you people with 100+ WU's finished. I have one of my dual-processor cores that is being used completely by the F@H and I only have 24 WU's completed. I find it strange that my PC completes 5000 frame WU's faster than a 1500 frame WU lol.

Hmm... You mentioned you were running that standard, non-beta version... Are you running the console version, or the gui version? Also, based on your scans with AVG/Spyware + a full reformat, I assume you're running it in windows; are you running it as a service, or do you manually start it everytime you turn on your pc?

Last thing, can you post the FAHlog.txt information? If I can see what the log says about your errors, I might be able to help you a little better.

Thanks!

I got it up and running on my PC (Intel C2D 6750 2.66GHz) which is on 24/7 because I use it as a server when I'm not gaming.

I want to do more!

I have a MacBook Pro that uses little power that I could run F@H on... It's a 2.16 GHh C2D which would almost double my cycles! However, I'm having trouble making it run ... There is no install. No Application file in the archive. Am I missing something?

EDIT - never mind ... I was using the wrong download.

Stanford University's Folding@home program is going to be recognized by the Guinness World Records folks as the most powerful distributed computer network in the world, thanks, in part, to the Playstation 3.

On September 23, the more than 670,000 PS3 users participating in Folding@home hit the petaflop mark.

Quote:
TOKYO, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(R)) computer entertainment systems, part of Stanford University's Folding@home(TM) program, have enabled the distributed computing project to be recognized by Guinness World Records(TM) as the most powerful distributed computing network in the world. The record was initially set on September 16, 2007 as Folding@home surpassed one petaflop(*1), a computing milestone that has never been reached before by a distributed computing network. In addition to this, the collective efforts of our users have enabled PS3 alone to reach the petaflop mark on September 23, 2007.

The record is a testament to the widespread participation of PS3 users from around the world-currently more than 670,000 unique PS3 users have registered to the Folding@home network, bringing the overall computing power of the program to more than a petaflop. Thanks to PS3's powerful Cell Broadband Engine(TM) (Cell/B.E.), scientists will now be able to make greater progress in their studies of protein folding and its link to diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and certain forms of cancer.

"To have Folding@home recognized by Guinness World Records as the most powerful distributed computing network ever is a reflection of the extraordinary worldwide participation by gamers and consumers around the world and for that we are very grateful," said Vijay Pande, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and Folding@home project lead. "Without them we would not be able to make the advancements we have made in our studies of several different diseases. But it is clear that none of this would be even remotely possible without the power of PS3, it has increased our research capabilities by leaps and bounds."

"To have PS3 play such a large role in allowing Folding@home to be honored by Guinness World Records is truly incredible," said Masayuki Chatani, Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, Technology Platform, Sony
Computer Entertainment Inc. "This record is clear evidence of the power of PS3 and the contributions that it is making to the Folding@home network, and more importantly, scientific research."

The Folding@home program up until recently leveraged only the distributed computing power of personal computers (PC) from around the world. The PCs that made up the Folding@home network numbered roughly 200,000 giving the program the equivalent of about one-quarter of a petaflop. On March 15, 2007, PS3 joined the program and since then more than 670,000 unique PS3 users have registered to the Folding@home network, bringing the overall computing power of the program to more than a petaflop.

Starting with Folding@home, SCE will continue to support distributed computing projects in a wide variety of academic fields such as medical and social sciences and environmental studies through the use of PS3 and hopes to contribute to the advancement of science.

Awesome.

I signed up and started running the F@H, but didn't know the Alla team code at the time, and at the same time, I think I brokeded my PS3. I left it running all day while I was at work, and when I got home, it wouldn't read any discs...

Yes, I knew where I could find it, but as I said, I was setting the F@H up on my PS3, and didn't have access to a computer at the time. Never thought about closing the F@H and going through the PS3 web-browser, but it turned out alright because the next day here at work I got the number then added it to my profile thing as soon as I got home. So calm down, Sing.

This is us, killing everyone else. Given enough time, I don't see why we can't hit top 100.

Also, be on the lookout for a new F@H Alla style contest in a few weeks. I need some help (photoshoppers PM me!) getting everything in order.

awesome, in order to hit top 100 i think we will need an other 100 or more CPUs though.

so folks spread the word, get as many CPUs as you can fire up and get em on the team.

*grins* i almost fell out of the top 10 by running windows for so long. ahh well running Linux again thus more CPU clock hours running to boost my score.

1 x G5 iMAC = 1 CPU
1 x P4M laptop = 1 CPU
1 x Intel iMAC = 2 CPU
1 x AMD 939 chip gaming comp Linux = 2 CPU
total = 6 CPUs

Sadly the laptop is supper slow and can take up to 2 weeks or so to complete a WU.

I finally took the #1 spot and almost broke 100k points doing it. SMP ftw! ^^ I guess having access to multiple PC's helps a lot too.

Crud, I completely forgot. It's still sitting on the desk where I left it.

I guess I'll finally have to get a digital camera...

A lot of people must start it once then kill it, and never launch it again. Too bad, such a cool concept.

sadly i have fallen to 10th on the list, but i have done so with the fewest WU completed of the top 10 grinders.

and all of that ranking with less then 200 CPUs in the past 30 days... we have lost some CPUs i see, but i overall folding power is increasing. that is a good thing.

Well I know that I'm a new poster here (first post actually), but I've signed up. I just hope my desktop can handle being on 24/7 seeing as how its getting kinda old, don't do much on it anyways. I'm just happy to help with this.

as long as it is semi clean of dusk and has plenty of ventilation around it, it should be fine running 24/7/365. also a battery backup power supply is a good idea. i prefer APC but most will work.

welcome to the team.

i will be back up to full power again after the 2nd. currently have my intel iMAC off line as the school is shut down until the 2nd. no need to have extra power being drawn at the school when no students will be there. the laptop is back up and cranking though so it is something.

ok back up to full power. i have my laptop, workstation (game rig), G5 iMAC, and Intel iMAC all running now. had to update the beta client on my Intel iMAC as it is the DC vs and it is up and running now.

so i have a total of 6 CPUs cranking out WUs. I have not had all 6 running in some times due to having to use my laptop for work on the road.

Been awhile on an Update for F@H for Alla but I did find a **** nifty site that tracks pretty much every statistic on the Folding Teams[/link].

Currently, we sit at 518th place.

Keep on folding!

Still looking for Photoshoppers to help design a new bumper sticker!
