points = 110 * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is the number of days it took to complete the unit.

In for it, but after 10 hours my sh*tty laptop is still at 63/1500.
Guess I have to install it on my gaming PC which is at least 4 times faster.

run it on both.

FYI up to 40 users and 44 CPUs were getting closer to the 100 user mark.

I signed up last night! I'm not on there, but I signed up. I left my 'puter on all night last night, and when I checked it before I left this morning, it said it was only at 255/1500. Not 100% sure what that means, but I'm assuming that 1500 is 1 WU (not sure what that is either, but I don't have to know) and I haven't completed one yet, so I don't show up on any lists. It can go really slow, Belki. I admit I don't have mine optimized and it only uses like 53% of my PC, but the one I've completed was 2000 frames at 1m9s per frame. I turn my PC off most nights, so it took like two or three days for that one to finish up. The one I'm on now is only 250 frames but it's running at a rate of one frame every nine minutes.

Science is weird!

You can control the amount of processor being used, the default setting is the lowest possible. If you aren't going to use the machine you can up the value and then turn it back down when you want to use the computer.

Ficksed your smiley too

also with only 1500 parts to your WU you will only get small points. most of the WU i get are in the 5,000,000,000 in size, but i do allow for larger then 5M files too on all of my systems even my old laptop.

if you were at roughly 50% after a few hours, you will be on the board soon.

also wanted to note that the allah team has moved up from the 17000 range to the 9000 range, the lower the number the better the team. so very nice.

Smiley: dubious

Five billion frames? That's madness. I'm also allowing for greater than 5MB work assignments but the largest I had was the 2000 frame one, and it took about 36 hours. Five billion frames would mean my computer would be running long after I'm worm-food.

5 billion frames?! My work comp wouldn't be finished by this time in 2015. Hell, it took me 3 days to finish up a 5 thousand frame unit.

Question time: Why the hell is mine sitting on "Attempting to get work packet" still? It's been that way since yesterday afternoon. It completed while the site was having that 15 minute update.. so I'm hoping it didn't glitch itself by trying to turn itself in at that time.

sadly with the finstall script i can not tell how large the package is i am working on with my game box. i do have 2 F@H running on this computer at the same time though. thus the status 1 and 2, one for each core of my CPU.

nice the more the better. once my laptop and 2 iMACs finish some cores, that will add 4 more CPUs, yes that is not bad math.

laptop = 1CPU
G5 = 1 CPU
Intel = 2 CPUs (it is a dual core duo)

How is the score determined?

points = 110 * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is the number of days it took to complete the unit.

So slower computers get higher scores? That doesn't sound right.

Slower computers get higher scores per work unit, but complete less work units.

So we're being scored based on how hard we try, not how much work we get done.

K, I'm starting up my old PIII 600mhz tonight.

FAQ Scoring Answer

FAH FAQ wrote:
How do you decide how much credit a work unit is worth? How do you determine how many points a work unit is worth? Before putting out any new work unit, we benchmark it on a dedicated 2.8GHz Pentium 4 machine with SSE2 disabled (more specifically, as reported by /proc/cpuinfo on linux: vendor_id : GenuineIntel, cpu family : 15, model : 2, model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz, stepping : 9, cpu MHz : 2806.438, cache size : 512 KB). This machine runs linux, so all WUs are benchmarked with the linux core.

We plug the results of this into the following formula:

points = 110 * (daysPerWU)

where daysPerWU is the number of days it took to complete the unit. This equation was chosen to match the points for previous Gromacs WUs to the previous point system. The upshot is that Tinker WUs will be worth more than before we set up the new points (i.e. before April 2004).

Please note that the very concept of a reference machine will mean that some WU benchmarking will vary from the performance on your machine. Even between P4s, there are significant differences in architectures over the years. Moreover, variations between FAH WUs can also lead to differences in benchmarking points.

Our goal is consistency within a given definition of a reference machine setup (described above), but beyond that the natural variation from machine to machine and WU to WU will never allow any point system to perfectly reflect what you get on your machine.

Add another one of the admins to this list. I've had family die of some of these diseases so it's going on two of my boxes. And a rate up or two from me...

And before I forget, I stickied it as well. Well done Kael. Well done.
