also just an FYI, IIRC they do the team point updates either weekly or monthly. i forgot as i have not looked into that in a long time. just think how many computers we could have access to with say 50% of allakhazam posters participating.

I believe they update every 24 hours but I'm not positive.

I've gotten more hits in Wow Main then FFXI Main (I suspect because more people use PC's, for an obvious reason). And of course, more participation in the OOT then everywhere else.

No, not really. I posted it everywhere else, if they are interested, they'll see it somewhere.

For the purpose of inspiring even greater community invovlement, let's share our favorite terminal illness stories! I'll go first:

I remember the first time I tripped acid. It was Valentine's Day, 1995, and I was a week shy of my fifteenth birthday. I remember it because it was also the first time I ever flew on an airplane. The parentals and I were headed off for a week in Orange, California, and they left on a flight a couple hours ahead of me, so I was chauffered to the airport by my grandparents.

Now, a couple years earlier my aunt had lost a two-year long battle with a brain tumor. She went from being the most energetic, positive and downright fun person I knew to being a zombie with sunken eyes and no teeth or hair. She would frequently have seizures and her presonality was never the same after her first surgery. She was 34 when she died.

Her death is what most of us believe was the catalyst for Grandma's early-onset Alzheimer's. Grandma had always been a pillar of the community, working for years in the state government in Lincoln, Nebraska and then managing a not-for-profit shelter in Colorado Springs. She was beautiful and articulate, and her unraveling was the greatest human tragedy I've ever bore witness to personally.

But it also lent itself to some great comedy. So I'm riding in the backseat of the grandfolks' Oldsmobile on the way to the airport, and Grandma asks if I'd like something to eat before I get on the plane.

She says, "Jeff, want a sandwich before you get on the plane?"

Except my name is Kile; her oldest son, my uncle, is Jeff. I tell her, "No thanks", because I'm tripping pretty hard and am really not hungry, but she insists.

And she hands me a tinfoil and mayonaise sammich. It had lettuce and tomato, too, but instead of and sort of meat she had placed two little sheets of tin-foil in there. I took it, and put it in my pocket. Then I threw it away once they dropped me off.

Grandma was dead before she turned 60. She died in an assisted living center because it became too difficult for my grandfather to keep her from hurting herself at home. She would take the car out, she hoarded all manner of weird things and never knew who she was talking to. She did horribly inappropriate things, like flashing her breasts and/or vagina at strangers. It took her close to a decade to finally be cured in death.

I love you and miss you Grandma and Aunt Cindy.

Yes, since it only knows you've joined a team when you upload a completed work unit, since the unit goes in marked with your name and team on it.

Only my one apartment pc, but its relatively new and decently powerful. So aside from the crazy quad video card posters I know on here I think I should be finishing a lot of simulations. The only problem is a I tend to run a lock of background processes.

Does your name pop up on the list after you finish your first project?

ahh, well just added my intel iMAC to the list.

here are the specs of my 4 boxes:

laptop = P4 mobile 256M ram 1800 runs 100% of the time with 99% folding being the ONLY application running.

workstation/game box: amd 939 chip X2 3800+ 2G ram. runs about 60 - 70% of the month. only time it is not running folding in the background is when i need to do video editing and some times when i swap over to windows to play some games.

iMAC G5: last of the G5 iMACs and it is the 20in vs. only 1G ram and forget the clock speed of the CPU. this one will run the least amount of folds. i use this for playing videos out the display window at my second school. so unless i am at the school (only about 10 - 20 hrs a week) it is not folding.

iMAC Intel: 2.2G dual core duo with 1G ram. this one will be running 24/7 now that i have reset the folding to run all the time instead of just as a part time app.

if i get time this weekend i will work on getting one or more of my older computers back up and running to do folding 24/7 as well.

the 3 rigs i have that are off line right now are:

P4 2.4G 800Mhz FSB with 2G ram
AMD athlon 800 with 1G ram
AMD Athlon 1200 with 1G ram

all 3 will be running linux and using the CLI vs, but not 100% if i will be able to get any of them up and running. depends on if i can afford to replace their failing hardware.

Yeah, I started using SETI@home back in 1999 or so and ran it for years.

BOINC was this framework developed by some Berkely folk for generic distributed processing projects like SETI@home, protein folding, prime number calculation, etc. A few years ago SETI@home moved to this framework and stopped supporting the older client.

My main gripe with BOINC was that you couldn't just turn the processing on or off. You had to set up some predefined schedule that was all remotely controlled by the server. I do software development so sometimes I need to turn off extra crap for high-performance, CPU-bound stuff so I couldn't run BOINC.

PS3:
Cell Processor
Folding running ?% of the CPU

yeah when the PS3 came out and folding went after the combined power of the CPU and GPU it is fully optimized as you know exactly what the hardware is. very nice.
