Not sure.

I think Lucas has delayed production of the movie relizing that most of the fans have not liked the first 2 episodes as much as was expected.

Lucas made episode 1&2 for the 8 year old, and not all of us have that inside us.

I for one won't be going and seenig the third episode in theaters until I hear good reviews first.

May of the year of release is a typical date. Not sure due to what Meerkat said about production delays.

Nick from Sacramento takes us down memory lane and gives us hints and clues of what is to come:
Back on 10/30/01 I attended an advanced screening of Monsters Inc (I clearly remember the date as it was the day before Halloween and a couple days before Monsters Inc actually opened nationwide - Dreamworks also released Shrek on dvd that same day), prior to the screening a Disney rep advised us that we would be the first in the nation to see the trailer for Star Wars Episode II. Needless to say that the crowd erupted in joy. I also clearly remember the trailer as it was the only time I had ever seen it (flashing clips of the movie paced to the timing of Vader's breathing). My theory is that everything is in place for the first Episode III trailer to be released on the same schedule. November 5th is the date the Disney/Pixar's The Incredible's comes out nationwide, also Shrek 2 is to be released on dvd that day.
With big winter/holiday films, especially family, the studios usually drop teaser trailers for the coming summers big movies. I'll be keeping my eyes out for advance screening of The Incredible's in the latter part of October, here in Sacramento, everybody else nationwide do the same.

In other news, we did have a TFN fan from Dreamworks claim arrangements were being made on having it screen before Shark Tales in two weeks. Seems inconsistent, but thought we should mention it in case LFL is taking a slightly different approach this final time.
