No. It doesn't mean that at all. The numbers are called up in order, in advance. Where you go as a result doesn't affect anything at all. If number 267 gets hit by a bus on the way to the recruting depot and you are number 268, you don't magically get called if you wouldn't have otherwise. It didn't work that way.

Again you miss the point of what I was asking. Do you know for a fact that GHB "pulled strings" to get GWB into the guard? Or are you just assuming that because he went to the gaurd instead of Vietnam, and his father happened to be a Congressman at the time?

How about I just "assume" that the military somewhat automatically avoids putting the sons of elected federal officials into front line combat positions? My assumption would be about 100 times more valid then yours.

Given the time and climate and military position of the US at the time, GHB would have had to "pull strings" in order to get the military to put his son into combat duty in Vietnam. The opposite is nothing special.





See. This is a silly line of reasoning. It's like ******** that the children of the president of the US get a secret service detail, while the "ordinary citizens" have to rely on plain old police protection. Would you be referring to Ben Barnes, the guy Rather interviewed on that same '60 Minutes' broadcast on which he held out the now-admittedly-fake memos?

Barnes, who was at one time Lt. Governor of Texas, said he used his power in that office to get Bush "to the head of the line" for a guard fighter pilot spot.

The problem with this:

1) Bush entered the Guard in May of 1968.

2) Barnes was not elected Lt Gov until Jan of 1969.

How remarably similar to Kerry's assertion that he was in Cambodia in Xmas of 68 on Nixon's orders... when Nixon didn't take office til Jan 1969.



No, it's not. Matter of fact, the man in charge of managing that list has asserted that Bush did not get "jumped,"... because in the case of pilots, there was pretty much no waiting list. The documentary evidence supports his statements. Huge wait for enlisted men trying for airman positions... no wait for pilots, because few people with the required education and qualifications were interested in pilot positions, as it required nearly two years of full-time training and a six-year contract.

No documentary evidence supports Barnes' claims. At least, no non-fake documentary evidence.



I'll bet even this hypothetical chimp you're fantasizing about can read a calendar.
