For 25 years I've been wearing glasses. yesterday I go and get some trial contact lenses...

I can't get the bloody things in! I just spent 90 minutes trying to get the right one in and no luck!
Putting it on my eye doesn't bother me, I'm over that now, but it just won't go on...

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!

It took me like 30 minutes my first time. And when I did get them in, I couldn't stop blinking.

After a while, you'll be able to put them in with your pinky finger while driving.

wow i must be special, it only took me about ten minutes toi get them in the first time, my strategy is to put it on you right index finger, pull you cheek down with your middle finger, use your left hand index to pull your eye lid up and look straight at the lense while putting it in.

probably doesn't help but meh.

my wife used to wear contact lenses. she was diligent with them too, washing them out every night, taking them out for the week end and wearing glasses to give her eyes a rest.

the endless check ups for new perscriptions, yes, your eyes change and you have to go atleast once a year to make sure your prescription is still valid, or needs changing.

buying the cleaning solution in bulk.

then........we went to the rand eye clinic in ft.lauderdale. i picked up a news week magizine in the waiting room, and before i finnished reading it, my wife was able to toss her glasses, all her spare contacts, cleaning solutions, eye appointments, and a good 10 to 15 minutes a night for caring for them in the trash.

lasic surgery. forget the contacts. it will be the best 15 minutes you ever spend at the doctors office.

::Laughs:: Used to take me at least an hour every morning to get them in for the first couple of months. But i stuck to it... and now I cant wear them all the time thanks to my allergies. Lucky me. Dont worry, it'll get easier =D

I saw someone struggling with his contact lenses. But then his classes were starting so he stopped trying.

I just can't get over the fact that they have to slice-open the front of your cornea... EWW!!! Smiley: eek

This thread came at the perfect time. Last night I fell asleep with my contacts in. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD move. I woke up the next moring, and I couldn't hardly open my eyes. I tried taking them out. EEEEEEEEEK, one broke into 3 pieces in my eye. Its been a whole day and my eyes are still kinda blood shot. Here's a tip for the newbie contact wearers out there, DONT FORGET TO TAKE THEM OUT!

The Contact like got all sticky and kinda hardened in my eye. Its not a great feeling.

I know I will never forget again.

Edit: I spelled I wrong...

Really? I never have that problem and I leave my contacts in for weeks at a time. Effects must vary per person...

I went back and tried again, just after I posted and finally got them both in, after another hour.
Wore them all night at work and had no problems. Kept putting in eye stuff about every two hours, so my eyes didn't dry out.

Taking them out was easy, took about 5 minutes, this morning, before I went to bed.

I'd like to get it done, but $4000AUS is better spent on the wife, kids and house at the moment.

It depends on the type of contact, generally the reasaon you can't sleep with them in is because it deprives them of oxygen so they break down into hydrogen which bonds with your eye causing a big amount of pain.

Newer lenses have been enhanced with an 'anticatalyst' shal we say which stops the water breaking down so it is possible to keep them in for days even weeks at a time

I would rather take the risks of laser surgery. Glasses suck major ***, but at least you dont have to clean and store them every night in a special solution.

I prefer contacts over glasses, but not by much.

Depending on what kind of contact lenses you have too depends on how much saline you should use when you put them in. I have the kind that you throw away every 2 weeks, and they need to be kept fairly wet, so I have to use a lot of saline to get them in easily. For other brands that are known as "dry" lenses, you're not supposed to use a lot of saline when you put them in or it also makes it difficult. Hope this helps you, I've been wearing contacts for 7 years now, and while I've never had to put them in while driving (hehe), I can now do it without a mirror or anything to look in.
