A computer problemFollow

#1 Sep 16 2004 at 9:01 PM Rating: Decent
I just formatted my com, installed wins xp and installed service pack 2. However, for some reason when i am downloading .torrents file, my computer would automatically reset after quite some time. It's not blaster worm or whatever bug. After the "auto-restart" when it boots into windows, a pop up showing "Microsoft just recovered from a serious error, Do you want to send a report?" some lines like that.

Any computer gurus here? Is my computer configured wrongly that lead to the "auto restarting". The weird thing is when i am not downloading .torrents file, there will be no problems. Some other cases like downloading of other files from some websites will cause it to auto reboot.

Some information which might be of help to you guys out there:
c:FAT32 system (Master), d:(cd rom drive) e:(cd rom drive) f:NTFS (Slave). "Busy" indicator was not connected to my mainboard (I don't know how to connect it to which pin?). For some reason, i only saw the PowerLed, ResetLed and one more led(I forgotten, but definitely not "Busy" indicator led).I am using ASUS A7N9X mainboard.(I think, cos i am working now..cant double check it)

Before i forgot,I lost the mainboard manual so i do not know how to connect those led pins. The connected ones are with the help of my friend. He too, also do not know how to connect the "Busy" indicator led. Any form of help/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

P.S: I am a computer ******.

Edit: Sorry, I think i should post it in the Technical Support Forum.

Edit: Now, I have this error.
Delayed:
This post looks very much identical to a post you made 373 seconds ago.
Anyway, sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Hopefully, some nice guys will be able to help me out.

Yes you should post in the Tech Support Forum.

But just for the record, the LED connections have nothing to do with your problem.

I like to blame reboots such as the one you're experiencing on inadequate power supply issues, but the truth is that there are a whole plethora of potential causes.

It still could be the Blaster worm. Belive it or not i have seen after a format a Blaster worm still residing on the Host PC. so i would get somone that is a bit more computer savy to look into that for you. You can try Houescall Online Virus scan for staters. and maybe a blaster removeal tool as weel.

One thing that i would suggest to you is to change your file system on your C: to a NTFS rather then a FAT. NTFS is a self repairing file system that works MUCH better with XP the a FAT file system does.

all i cna think of at the moment.

Most likely it has to do with sp2. sp2 deals with security and you never want to download an upgrade right after it releases, wait a few months and notice any changes in the software.

If you did a complete system wipe/reformat, how the hell is Blaster on your computer? It'd be like doing a complete reformat of your computer, installing Linux and having the Windows logo still pop up.

Yeah. I can't see BitTorrent creating a power supply issue, while FFXI doesn't. :o)

Not a computer guru, but everyone that I know that has upgraded to service pack two has had their share of problems with XP.
