Radio sucks because there are precious few true talents that get airplay. They mostly are prepackaged, overproduced, one-hit wonders that you won't remember in six months... Thier lyrics are meaningless drivel. This, IMHO is why, in general, the most profitible and popular radio stations in ANY city are the "Classic" stations. Why do the Beatles and Pink Floyd or Al Green, just to name a FEW of the greats, still get MAJOR airplay? Because it was special. It meant something.
Will anyone be listening to Brittany Spears or "Jamiriqoui" or Lisa Loeb or one hundred others in 40 years? I strongly doubt it.
I threw in Al Green because I didn't want to be pidgeon holed...
EDIT: Yousami, I was with you all the way until you asked for Hip-Hop. I think Hip-Hop barely qualifies as music. It is more like "Rythmic Poetry" It lacks melody, not to mention harmony. The artists rarley "sing" They talk. They are not really creative in my opinion. There is alot of sampling. Soon in that Genre, the only songs not sampled will be "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "The Hokey Pokey"...
As a matter of fact, I think those are the only two songs not "Sampled" by Hip Hoppers
Hate me now
