I've burned up an 11 dollar package of batteries from Costco (that's like a metric ton of batteries) with my MP3 player and outside of Howard Stern and NPR I've heard maybe 2 songs worth listening to. So many of these songs are done by try-hard male-******* and bands that were told that "'cool' sounds like this!'. This decade is nearly half over and I'm forced to listen to Hieroglyphics songs from 3 or 4 years ago. Is this the future of music? Will Gwen Steffani EVER stfu about her ex-boyfriend? Please, someone point in the direction of some hip hop or any other music that isnt horrible. Actually, I heard a cool song by some punkish type band where the chorus goes something like "You say, I dont know. I say bla bla bla" I just butchered the chorus but it almost sounds like that, can anyone tell me the name of that band/song?
#2REDACTED, Posted: Sep 14 2004 at 2:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yeah, i 100% agree with you. Music is either rap or angry white subculture playing ****** guitar or some alternative **** like Nickel Back. I know that song your talking about but dont know the name/artist. You want a good new band though, go check out some stuff by modest mouse. Even though they just made main stream and preppy little **** just created them as pop culture, I've been a fan for ever and they always have something new to sing about with a different sound each time. But, I think that one song your talking about is a rip off of the modest mouse song the view. Just the beat and vocal sound. Because that song was unheard of way before them. Still a good song reguardless(the one you speak of). As for me, I've learned to keep away from the radio. The music sucks in general and the only good talk show; MJ in the morning(formerly MJ&BJ); went completly down hill ever since BJ left. Ever since MJ has lost his sense of humor and tries his hardest to play an appropriate watered down version of Savage. So, a nice mp3 player is a utility to me. I use a rio karma, mines the 20gb one.

Either that or its because the music industry is a cookie cutter industry which to stay in the buisness you have to sound the same in general or sing about something with out meaning to get through to the idiots, I mean general population. Only good music is old music in general.

Yeah, most music on the radio sucks.

The song and band that Yusame was looking for is "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand.

I've found that there are actually some pretty good radio stations in and around New York State; while I was driving to the Adriondacks I found that Albany actually has some pretty nice stations, and of course around New York City you get some decent stuff.
#8REDACTED, Posted: Sep 14 2004 at 3:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Atlanta has a very good variety. They have good oldies, new music like alternative blah blah(even tho I hate it), rap, country, most everything there. Even some wierd channel with insturmentals and wierd expirimental music. Atleast as I recall.

Yea Atlanta has a grand variety of Stations. What part of Atlanta do u live in Ghana? ... Back to topic..

I swap between Real Radio 105.3 for news during the week and phil hendrie lol love it. And then on the weekends for some music.

96.7 the buzz even though its clear channel =\ its still good music from time to time.

99.7 has always been a favorite of mine. they are one of the very few independently owned major stations down here.

and yes Q100. Simply cause my gf tells me they always have kick *** contests going on that I should try to enter.

Welp thats bout it.

So in atlanta radios al good.
Except for those darned commercials!!!! Male enhancement this, feeling depressed that, lose weight now, i have a horrible rash here, prozac is the way to go here.... blah blah blah. I wish there was a radio station with NO commercials(idiom huh?).

You have nothing to complain about my small hometown station is still rocking out to the best of loverboy and harlequin with a little Chilliwack thrown in for good measure.

Truly frightening.

yeah, todays music is getting more like dookie every minute. this is the formula that the record companies look for:

listen to something thats #1 right now

learn 1% of the melody,

play it louder

talk about smokin ****** and drinkin if youre a rapper,

talk about totally abstract **** if you are a metal band

talk about your relationships if you really want to make money

#17 Sep 15 2004 at 2:01 PM Rating: Default
relation ship music doesnt make money. Its called emo. I've been listening to alot of it for a while. Your thinking of punks who sing about hot girls. Big diff. But I agree with the rest of your post.

why does music suck so bad!!

the answer is simple.

" The people running the music industry are nothing more than idiots who have never played an instument in their life, yet they say what plays and what doesn't".
modest mouse

PEOPLE LISTEN TO UNDERGROUND OR INDIE ROCK, THERE IS GOOD MUSIC OUT THERE, U JUST HAVE TO SEARCH HARD FOR IT.

Radio sucks because there are precious few true talents that get airplay. They mostly are prepackaged, overproduced, one-hit wonders that you won't remember in six months... Thier lyrics are meaningless drivel. This, IMHO is why, in general, the most profitible and popular radio stations in ANY city are the "Classic" stations. Why do the Beatles and Pink Floyd or Al Green, just to name a FEW of the greats, still get MAJOR airplay? Because it was special. It meant something.
Will anyone be listening to Brittany Spears or "Jamiriqoui" or Lisa Loeb or one hundred others in 40 years? I strongly doubt it.

I threw in Al Green because I didn't want to be pidgeon holed...

EDIT: Yousami, I was with you all the way until you asked for Hip-Hop. I think Hip-Hop barely qualifies as music. It is more like "Rythmic Poetry" It lacks melody, not to mention harmony. The artists rarley "sing" They talk. They are not really creative in my opinion. There is alot of sampling. Soon in that Genre, the only songs not sampled will be "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "The Hokey Pokey"...
As a matter of fact, I think those are the only two songs not "Sampled" by Hip Hoppers
Hate me now

Because the people singing it are so bad.

Radio stations play what the demographic wants. The record companies tell the radio stations what the demographic wants. Canned play lists, same music repeated over and over, and no listner input.

I for one just go and listen to disks I have burned form my cd collection.

I think, we should just send anthrax to who ever runs these radio stations. But, modest mouse said that? As big a fan I am of them... they just made it main strem, and theyve been on sony records for... like 4 years I belive? Btw, you do need to search good music. Just dig deeper into record labels, youll find links from band sites to other band sites to others and others and so on. Its like a chain.

Now I'm no big advocate of sending such a deadly desease as anthrax to the radio stations and record companies, however if we send Anthrax (you know the early 80's thrash band?) I'm pretty sure the problem would be solved. :)
