This is my first topic in this forum, and I'm only doing it 'cause I'm in fan-girl mode.

Last night, Kevin Smith (of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl - also writer of some of the Daredevil and The Green Hornet comics, among other things), a.k.a Silent Bob, opened up Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash West. There's one in Red Bank, NJ, already, but they just opened one in Westwood - near UCLA - last night.

The ad said they'd be signing from 5pm-10pm, so we got there about 3pm. We got our stuff signed about 9pm. I found out today that the cast wound up staying until 5:15am to sign stuff for people.

On hand? Kevin Smith (Silent Bob), Jason Mewes (Jay), Brian O'Halloran (Dante), Jeff Anderson (Randal), and Marilyn Ghigliotti (Veronica). Harley Quinn Smith (Kevin's daughter who played baby Silent Bob in Jay & Bob) was there for a while, but not by the time we got in.

Rather than fan-girl you all here, I'll link to my post on the View Askew forums: http://viewaskew.com/theboard/viewtopic.php?t=15296&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=110

There's some pictures. Some other people in the thread had pictures from a website feed as well.

Cool post, I met Kevin through a friend of mine out here on the east coast. He's a good guy. I live just about 45 mins from Kevin. I like your sig, my favorite from the beat gen is Neal Cassidy.

Didn't Jason Mewes get hospitalized recently for a drug overdose?

I know it's sort of off-topic, but that's the first thought I had when I saw his name.

Anyway, I've enjoyed Kevin Smith's film work for the most part. Just watched (read: fell asleep to) Dogma again last night.

Supposedly he's sober now. It would be good if he was, I was watching some of "Chasing Amy" on DvD with the commentary and Mewes was obviously trashed through it.

I really like Kevin Smith's work, though I haven't seen Jersey Girl yet. His movies always have great dialogue.

I havent been keeping up with television or movies too much unless something really catches my eyes. I dont really read People magazine or US, but... isnt Jason Mewes dead? I heard that like last year and been to lazy to research it. Btw, KEVIN SMITH IS A REAL MAN! CLERKS PWNED!

He's actually been clean and sober for a year and a half. The reason that Kevin Smith started talking about making Clerks 2 was that he had told Mewes a long time ago that - if Mewes cleaned up his act - he would right another Jersey flick for them. Mewes has been clean for over a year, so... Clerks 2 is being written.

Uhm. No. I did in fact see him, and speak to him briefly, and have his autograph on two copies of Clerks. Unless they've got a damn good look-alike, Mewes is definitely alive and kicking.

He also looked really good. I mean, I'm not a drooly Mewes-is-hot person, but he looked healthy and together.

That's good to hear. It would have sucked big time if he had followed down the path and ended up dead from an OD or something.

Also wanted to mention Kevin's wife was hot in Playboy. =D

I'm a pretty big Kevin Smith fan. Loved the movies, though I haven't seen Jersey girl yet.

His comic work has been pretty good as well. He had a great run on Daredevil. I've heard his Green Arrow run was cool as well.

Although, if you want to see flames, go to a comic book message board and mention the Daredevil or Spider-Man/Black Cat miniseries he wrote. Hoo-BOY!Smiley: eek

Fanboys can be evil.

Hmmmm...Kevin Smith and Viewaskew productions.....

It is too bad that for the most part Kevin has never written a character with decent morals or values that one could come to truely like. His characters are basicly shallow, self serving, jerks who **** me off to no end.

Kevins story ideas are also a bit odd. Anyone here see Vulgar? Ugg, all I can say about that one.

I think that most Smith films are a perfect indication of what is wrong in todays culture. People enjoy these movies for how wrong they are, and his movies have little if any redeming value to them. They don't teach bad acts are punished, in fact they seem to teach the opposite. They don't teach good behaviour is rewarded, in fact they teach it is punished.

I am can't comment on his comics, as I have not followed comics since they went over the 1$ a book price.

Considering Dante got shot after the credits. Maybe that was a joke, idk. But I'd love to see how Randal would run **** ha ha. I love that guy. Btw, Veronica is kevin smiths daughter? Idk that some one so chubs can create such a babe.

I'd like a bit of elaboration on this. You kinda threw me a curve here. Cite a few examples from the movies, maybe?

I'm not getting on yer ***, or anything. I'm just wondering where yer coming from.

I kinda agree. Its good marketing though. People like to see what isnt right. Why do you think people love ****? Right and wrong doesnt exsist in the media. Sorry.

Jay and Silent Bob are a perfect example. Two people I would hope no one here would associate with. Jay is foul mouthed, ill tempered, does drugs, and deals as far as I could tell. And yet he comes off as a hero in many films, and if not a hero at least someone who not a bad guy.

Main character from clercks, comes into work to cover a shift for someone I belive. (Forgive me, it has been a while since I watched these films.) Now, does he just get to do his job and then thats it? No, he ends up being messed over for being a good guy, becuase his replacement doesn't show up when he said he would. Doesn't seem he is too bad a guy, until he starts talking to his girlfriend, and then you relize just how unlikeable this guy really is. Hypocrit, mysogonistic, liar. As he runs the store you relize this man does not take his responsibilties lightly, in fact you relize he doesn't belive he has any!

Vulgar, just wrong in all ways, just wrong.

I worked on that film (among some of the others put out by View Askew. Kevin didn't write Vulgar. His friend Bryan Johnson did, as well as directed it. Kevin was an executive producer. He just floated the money along with Scott Mosier.

Any body got a link to the playboy with Kevin Smiths wife in it??? She is really hot, only reason for watching Jay and Silent bob strike back. That and I get some of the inside jokes because I was part of there camp from time to time. Jay mews is alive but his hair is all gone. I just saw him last week, he got a bowl hair cut! Yuck.
