yeah. Just got power back a day ago so I've been playing FFXI to make up for all the lost days.
If Ivan hits, the best place would be east or west of Tallahassee since not many ppl live there. But it'll be a lot worse than Francis or Charley was.
Anyways, what was it like to listen to the winds...literally the 1mile strip I live on got the worst winds in the entire nation. The only place harder hit was the coast. Despite being annoyingly long...the winds sound like a low flying jet. Not the roar of the engine, but kind of like that echo-effect sound after it passes by. That's basically what a 90-100mph wind sounds like. If the winds get faster, it starts to whistle and produce a howling sound.
Really though the one thing that was very unique was that the winds come and go. During the entire storm, even in the eye wall (the strongest winds surrounding the eye), there was no consistent wind gust. Basically it would be calm for a minute or so and then a gust of about 50-60 mph would last for a few seconds. The closer the eye came, the shorter the interval of calm winds, and the stronger the gusts. But despite the video you see of sustained winds continously gusting, for the most part hurricane Francis had calm winds. The damage done was solely by those few 5-10 second wind gusts that were over 70mph.
Where I live the gusts reached about 90 at the VERY most. Most were only 60-70mph. The coast was much harder hit and from what I heard they had gusts from 100-125mph. Granted these last only a second or 2, but those gusts are what does the damage.
Well, hope I informed some of you as to what it was like. See you!
