Not resigning because he is gay, resigning because a male staff member is suing him for sexual harassment.
Not sure about the gay marriage issue, but he is married to a woman (with 2 kids, 1 from current wife, 1 from ex wife), and he admitted to having a 'consentual physical relationship' with a man.

This was really surprising. I was in the car and heard his announcement on the radio and thought it was a joke that the radio station had made up. I don't think that he should resign. He is resigning due to several things. One is that his partner is suing him. Another is that several of his contributors have come under fire recently and his poll ratings have dropped sharply. Coming out of the closet, his family life will be a lot tougher, so he may want to give up his position for his family. Before his announcement, it was believed that McGreevey could possibly resign due to the fallout of the attack on his contributors.
