Ummm... why is everyone b!tching about rap now? Why not 30 years ago when it wasn't popular? I just think some people are mad because more people listen to rap now, than any other genre of music, as showed in many polls. Rap is always on the top 10 charts.

And what the f*ck is up with you and the female artists? Get a life, troll. Britney Spears and the like all suck, but why are you insulting a whole gender of artist. Anyways, I guess your intitled to your own opinions... (if sockpuppets do have opinions...)

Easy.

Good music: What I like.

Bad Music: What I don't like.

Replace the "I" with "you" and make it yours.

What music since Jazz do you know that has influenced the entire world the way HipHop has? You could say Rock n Roll, but with its current state, i wouldn't say it in public.

Do you even know the history of modern music?

Shut the **** up.

Watching BET for an hour doesn't make you an expert on the history of modern music.

People that hate rap, hate black folks.

It's latent racism.

Well, actually, I used to listen to strictly rap a few years ago, but I think it all sucks now. I enjoyed Tupac, Biggie, Puff Daddy and Mase.

You serious? Puffy, maybe years ago, but Mase? Smiley: disappointed

Let me define that: Rap sung by African American people is bad...OK, Im not trying to be racist here, but Ive noticed all that ludacris, p diddy, and stuff like that is all about how hard they nailed a girl last night...I listen to Eminem on some occasions...

also this thread isnt so people can flame others about what they think of music, its to see what type of music you people like and why...

Just as you claim that people just don't know the "good" rap, the groundbreaking rap, I would say the same to you of rock. There IS lots of rock making new ground. Look at the emergence of punk... punk rock is some of the most topical music out there now, and was "discovered" at the end of the '70s, and has been refined in the meantime. Another example is, in the late 80s, Trent Reznor... 100% ON HIS OWN (working as a janitor in the daytime at the recording studio in exchange for permission to use the equipment at night) created Nine Inch Nails which had a very fresh sound, and has influenced plenty of other artists.

Metallica - OVERRATED (agreed) and bad (disagreed)

Pearl Jam - OVERRATED (agreed) and decent (they're amazing)

Pink Floyd - Good stuff (they're amazing)

Black Sabbath - Good stuff (Actually, they're OK)

Kiss - Horrid (Nah...they're good)

Queen - Above average (agreed)

Led Zepellin - Good, but quite possibly the most overrated band ever. (I think that his music is great, therefore hes not overrated)

Good Stuff:
Industrial - From Throbbing Gristle to today, this overlooked and seldom listened genre of music offers something more for people willing to listen. Opens the air for experimentation.

New Wave - Whether you agree with its gender bending sexual ambiguities and synthesized sound, it was spot on for the decadence of the 80s.

Techno/Electronic - Not that trash techno crap that you hear blasting out of clubs every saturday night, but stuff from Germany and the UK. Although some pop techno can be good (Killers, White Town)

Punk/Ska - One of my friends said it best - it's white man's rap. It gives mostly white guys a place to tell it like it is and ***** about stuff in a straightforward and humourous way. Old school, 80s, 90s, and even some of todays pop stuff and emo. They're all good.

Trail-Blazers - This is the uncategorizable category. Weirdos that do hit or miss music, experiment with new genres or mix genres, and try out new instruments. This could include noise music. Think of acts like ******** Surfers, Frank Zappa, and Les Claypool's Frog Brigade.

Bad Stuff:
Country:
It's way too popular, and I still don't understand why. Old country (think Johnny Cash) was ok, but today's stuff is just pop music sung by scantly clad female singers. It's a regional type of music and doesn't appeal to people around the world.

Polka - Yuck.

Pop/gangsta Rap/ Hip-Hop
Poppy rap and hip hop are just inane and make the (mostly black) people who sing it look like parodies of themselves. Don't know about indie rap/ Hip Hop. I do like what they have to say in lyrics, and I like the wordplay.

Boy Bands and Pop Idols
What can I say? Some of the music is actually catchy, but without their image, they'd be less than nothing.

Yeah I really don't dig rap either. I've heard on a few occasions that the 'first' rap song released was actully by Blondie. (can't remember the song) If that is true its kinda ironic isnt it?

Anyways it really irks me when some millionaire rapper is going on about how tough things are in the ghetto when hes really sittin in his solid gold jacuzzi outside his 5 million dollar mansion. Thats just phoney. But isn't the whole music industry built around phoney images?

I don't like hip hop because it doesn't take any talent. I can't sing very well at all..but if I walked into a studio, with a cold, to record a hip hop album, they would doctor my voice so intensely that I'd be just as talented as J Ho..er Lo. But I still couldn't make it as a hip hop star. I would have to get a body double for my videos because I don't weigh 105 lbs. and I would realize that waering less clothes does not equal talent.

I despise pop punk. I saw a Good Charlotte video once(accidentally saw Mtv somewhere)and thought the Backdoor...er Backstreet Boys just got a new look and learned a few powerchords. Piercings, blue hair and tattooes does NOT automatically make you a real punk.

But again its all image BS

Anyways..

I don't think I've seen Manson on here. Mechanical Animals is a amazing CD IMO.

Your right, it doesn't. Being in the music industry for 7 years, producing 2 albums, being an ASCAP member for 6 years, owning a music publishing company, and currenlty earning my degree in recording arts does.

Time to grow up and get educated, son.
unless the bliss of ignorance is too much to let go of.

This is the kind of ignorance i'm talking about. This guy listens to 2 of the worst artists in rap, and then makes his mind up that rap sung by African Americans is bad. That's like someone listening to Limp Biscuit or Creed and then assuming that all rock and roll by white people is bad. Is anyone keeping up? Why didn't this person listen to Eminem and assume that all white rappers talk about are drugs and killing people?
There are African American artists that rap very similar to Eminem... in fact, Eminem named like 8 rappers that he KNOWS are better emcees than he is on his last album. Redman, Jay, Pac, Big, Dre (outcast), Nas, etc.

Dont be a ******* sheep people. Dont eat a **** sandwich and assume all sandwiches are bad.

I couldn't agree more. Anyone who listens to 2 or 3 songs in a genre and makes their mind up about the whole genre is an idiot in my book. Anyone who bases their opinions about the majority on the actions of the minority is a **** disease as far as i'm concerned. Working in the industry, nothing gets me more heated than someone basing their opinions on the losers.

Actually, she had the first rap video - it was called "Rapture"
Rap was already like 10 years old when she made that song. The story goes that she learned about the underground hiphop scene in NewYork and wanted to get into it... so she had this cat named Fab Five Freddy school her on what hiphop and rap was about. He's in the video too if you ever see it. That was a good song too... been sampled too many times though.

I dont think you know the difference between rap and r&b. J-lo is NOT a rapper. Mos Def is a rapper...and rappers dont sing. Once again... educate yourselves people. You'd be considered a moron where i'm from for thinking that hiphop artists sing and that j-lo raps. and hiphop stars dont weight 105 lbs... again, your a tad confused. Biggie was over 300lbs and Pun (one of the greatest MC's of all time), was nearly 800lb's. There are only a few rappers that weigh 105 lbs... and they get their asses whooped daily.

Try to keep up!!
