for those of you who no longer have any respect for FPS please ignore this thread.
I've been gaming for a long time now. I think the first game I ever played was Magic Carpet on an old compaq using buttons for DOS. Blackthorne, Mega Racer, and the like were my religion after i converted from Nintendo, and i've pretty much been an addict ever since. i would just like to say that even though the most FPS hardly require the intellectual skill and dedication to time that RPG games do, they're still a ton of fun and when a good one comes out i'm always all over it. That is the reason for this post.
as many of you know id software has always (up until valve took the crown with Half-Life, IMO) been the leader in FPS games...games like DOOM revolutionized gaming and really pushed the internet and LAN capabilities. The quake series did the same. (dont worry i played Unreal) and now there's DOOM 3. THANK YOU. when i pre-ordered this game i knew it would be "just another FPS" but remember that feeling you got in Half-Life when you first came upon the soldiers after finaly making it above ground? that's what i got from DOOM 3. It's by far the most realistic FPS i've come across thus far graphically and environmentally, not to mention the feeling of paranoia you get creeping through the echoing halls. I felt like a kid that snuck into a horror movie for the first hour and a half! shooting every corpse for fear it would attack me, too afraid to flashlight dark corners, and crawling every inch of the way for fear i couldnt kill the next beastie that popped out.
i'm not saying it's the best game ever made, but just do your best to put your mind where that marine is supposed to have his and hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as i did.
thanks for listening
