Anybody here use emulators/roms (evil)??? I've been using SNES, Gameboy Advance, Sega, and NES emulators for a while. I just recently started using Arcade emulators.

I used to think that MAME was the only adequete emulator for arcade roms and I was under the impression that it only plays older roms (pong old) and that if newer ones (1989-1999) did exist, it would probably take up 100s of MB. Anyways, I found an awesom site with really good emulators for arcade - I was ready to play some pong -.-

So I went to the roms section and they had many rare newer roms that I really wanted to play for a while, and they only took up roughlly 13MB each!

I downloaded Darkstalkers (All 4 of em), the entire
Marvel/X-Men VS Capcom/Streetfighter series (except Marvel VS Capcom 2), the entire Streetfighter Alpha/Zero series, the entire Last Blade/Samurai Showdown series, and other misc roms such as Mars Matrix (acknoledged as the best shooter in the world), Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Megeman Power Battle 2, Pocket Fighter, Puzzle Fighter 2, and many more.

So my question is, are there other free adequete emulators that can emulate newer systems, such as Playstation, that are easy to use? I remember trying to use a Playstation emulator before, but apperantly, I had to download many things just to get it to work...

PS: If you've never used emulators or roms before, I can give you some websites if you want =)

I used to use them. Haven't lately, and I don't even know where to get any anymore.

I play Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire, Shining Force, and Shining Force 2 on Emulator. I don't like to use my SNES or Genesis. I prefer to protect them and the games, because if they die you can't buy them anywhere! I haven't tried the PS emulator, mainly because I can play my PS games on my PS2. Wouldn't mind a Saturn Emulator with a few game ROMS as there are some RPG's I wouldn't mind playing, but can't find them anywhere.

Where is that new website you were talking about? Wouldn't mind finding some upgrades on my old emulators.

I used to, but I don't at the moment.

Frankly, EQ takes up most of my gaming time. And I own so many great games that I couldn't play them all if I did nothing but play games. Which I refuse to do. I have other things to accomplish with my life than to see how high of a score I can rack up on pinball.

First off, please list that site with the arcade emulators & roms. I have never tried an arcade emulator before.

As far as newer-system emulators, I don't think you can get them for PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube. You have to go with a mod-chip in the actual system to do that.

PS1 is available, however. Bleem! is a popular PS emulator. There are many others, and they do require you to download a few components. I think you will need some sort of BIOS file, an audio file, and a video file. They aren't very hard to find though.

The PS1 files require you to either put a PS1 disk into your CDROM drive, or to load a .iso file. I found a few ISO's on Warez and Kazaa, but I think your best bet would be to look into Bittorrent. Google it, see what you can find. A good site to download bit torrent files from is suprnova.org.

Do a little research, you can find almost everything for free on the internet.

Note: When I tried to use PS1 emulators on my system, they ran EXTREMELY fast. Too fast to play, really. I don't have a super-system, but it's pretty good.

Yes please list a good Mame site with roms. I used to goto www.mame.dk (a few years back) but they had to remove all their roms. Just for the record Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rules!!! Set all the controls to the same 6 buttons and you can play as all 4 turtles at the same time w00t!!!!

Here's the website I used for the Arcade emulators and roms, also has a working N64 emulator... http://www.coolrom.com/emulators.php

The emulatorr I'm using is Kawaks, which plays all the Capcom games.

Also, another good site for roms is: http://www.edgeemu.com

The main reason I want a PS emulator is because they have a lot of rare roms I want to play... mainly Castlevania - Symphony of the Night.

I used to. I quit because I don't have Broadband to DL them anymore (not in school with fast internet), and they are a pain in the *** to set up, and they are not very reliable.

~However~

They are an excellent idea, especially for people who don't play modern games. The thought of "playing everything on everything" is a novel idea, and would have been a pipe dream years ago. They are also appealing in that the collections of games don't take up racks of space the real arcade boards and cartridges take up. Cartridges and PCboards eventually die, but with emulation, they are preserved for years.

What I don't understand is: why are they illegal? Some co's, like Data East and Technos, are not around anymore, yet the roms are still illegal?! wtf?! None of these companies, even the ones that own the intellectual property rights to them, are making $$ off of old arcade, SNES, or Genesis games, so who cares?

If they weren't such a pain in the *** to get going on my computer, or if my computer wasn't so old and crappy, I'd probably use them. I've heard they are much easier to use on mac.

i liked epsxe(sp?) for playstation

you can get super sweet resolutions for polygons, and better blending and antialiasing. the # of polygons will still be low, but maybe someone will make a renderer that can, um, add polygons? on a p3 w/ geforce2 mx it plays fine, on a p4 with geforce 5 it plays pretty damn excellent. sometimes some screens dissappear or look like crap, some games need different settings than others, but if you want to play playstation games on a pc, you cant really complain. windows sucks, along with 99% of the apps for it.

theres a plugin pack somewhere for epsxe that has a bunch of different drivers so you can choose the best for your system. its completely modular and always upgradable, so downloading is necessary. not that bad. just a graphics driver, sound driver, cdrom driver, and bios, and youre set.

all the older roms play pretty damn good.
zsnes is probably the best emulator ever in terms of features and compatibility. youd swear nintendo made it themselves.

lazarus wgen dgen genecyst and megasis are all good sega emulators, and one of them plays sega cd and 32x which is AWWWWWWESOME. knuckles chaotix for a new spin(no pun intended) on sonic the hedgehog games. i remember when i got that for 32x, sweeeeet.

jnes or nesten for nintendo both excellent

So is owning an mp3 if you don't have the CD. Is that stopping most people?

They really shouldn't be illegal to use. If they aren't going to continue to sell them, then they shouldn't have a problem with those of us who still love the games. I don't use an emulator with FF, FF2, and FF3 because I have them for the PSX. Of course I also have them for the NES and SNES. If they put out ROTK4, Shining Force, and Shining Force 2 for the PS2 or the PSX, I will be happy to buy them. I just use the emulators so I don't have to ruin the original games. Its like some of my VHS tapes. I have a bunch of them that can't be replaced, or haven't been put out on DVD and I want to keep a copy of them. So, I copied them to my computers hard drive.

they are technically illegal to possess if you dont own it. the rumor is they dont care about the old ones that cant be bought in stores as long as you dont sell them. if you want to sell them you must get permission to use their copyrighted material in your own product. but who knows. i mean, there was a site that had like EVERY game. not there anymore. the rumor is that it went down because of issues with owner of the server. i dont know how reliable the source of either of these pieces of information are, but, thats pretty much life on the internet, eh?
