Thats interesting cause I was looking at the bible just the other day, looking over Revelations. My bible actually has something like a prolouge to the specific book of the bible. At any rate, it mentioned that these are not general relevations, but relevations of Jesus Christ. Genisis is the book of beginnings where as Revelations is the book of consumation... Jesus Christ's consumation to be specific.
This made me think.. if Revelations is mearly the consumation of Jesus Christ, does that really mean the end of mankind as we know it? or does that just mean the end of christianity?
Meh, I wouldn't take the prologue things to heart, I have some of those in my Bible, and some of the things they say are un-scriptural.
As to your questions about Jesus and His "consumation", you should know that the Bible was written about Jesus; He is the focal point of the entire book, both testaments. The Old Testament foretells His coming, the Gospels show His life, and the epistles tell us how to live like Him. So, Genesis is the beginning, Revelation is the end.
Revelation does not speak of the end of Christianity though, it speaks of the end of the heavens and the earth. In fact, it says that God is going to make a new heaven and earth for those who have been saved.
As to the original post, if you form your opinions from the Bible, there could still be varying opinions, because much of Revelation is metaphorical, so it is open to interpretation, or distortion, depending on where you are sitting. :)
