The controller cords are longer

Yeah, but they should have made the Audio/Video and power cord longer..

Speaking of controllers and cords, GC has some of the best cordless controllers IMO.

actually, I owe deathfromtheskys an apology. I was just going by the title of the thread, now that I see that the topic starter included games in his argument, I was wrong for insisting that games be left out of it.

That being said, weighing everything, I still give the Xbox a slight lead.

While the PS2 has exclusive titles due to contracts (which run out... right, Rockstar?), the Xbox has exclusives for the simple fact no other system could handle some of the titles (Morrowing, KOTOR).

Apology accepted!

I can't dispute the fact that the Xbox is a more powerful machine, and that it may be better-made than the PS2. I also cannot dispute that the RR is a more powerful, more luxurious, higher quality car than a Tempo.

The thing is though, I don't think most consumers will define what is the "best" by those things. I think, for most people, the "best" to them is what gives them the most for their money.

That being said, when you have a Tempo for $17K and a RR for $200k, and both cars function properly, which will most people pick? Tempo. Sure, the RR may be "better", but what is the most reasonable purchase? (I know those prices are probably wrong, but you get the idea.)

So, with a larger and more diversified library, with more big-name game franchises, more peripherals, more everything except for power, the PS2 is the "better" choice for almost everyone. This is evidenced by sales numbers.

I own both a Xbox and a PS2. I enjoy them both, but I find that there are more gaming options with my PS2 versus my Xbox. I will admit this though: when a PS2 game is good, it's really good. When a Xbox game is good, it is awesome! Sadly though, it seems that these games come along far too infrequently for the Xbox to surpass the PS2 in the eyes of most consumers. Agreed?

The only Big Name franchise I can think of the PS2 has that the XBOX doesn't is the Final Fantasy series. Resident Evil doesn't count because they are on the GC.

If you can think of any, let me know.

As for peripherals, name one that the XBOX doens't have that's not already included.

yeah, pretty much. Plus Xbox has been draggin their feet with certain titles... and now True Fantasy Online looks like it may never see the light of day as well.

I've been meaning to check out the Morrowind "Game of the Year" addition anyway.

It's been official for two months now that TFO has been canned.

I am not sure how you define "Big Name", but here are some that have had great sales and have become popular.

Ratchet & Clank
Jak & Daxter
Virtua Fighter 4
Gran Turismo series
SOCOM 1 & 2
Kingdom Hearts
.hack series
FFXI (although it is on PC too)
Tekken series
Onimusha series
Devil May Cry

As far as peripherals, the 2 systems are about the same in types of peripherals. I was speaking about the variety of the types, namely the different manufacturers. There are more different name brands and variations on the peripherals on PS2 than Xbox.

Ratchet & Clank - I dont see this one as popular
Jak & Daxter - neither this one
Virtua Fighter 4 - Come on, seriously? This game series lost it's speed after 2.
Gran Turismo series - Ok ill give you that, but XBOX has Project Gotham.
SOCOM 1 & 2 - Eh, these are ok, only reason they are big at all is because of voice chat.
Kingdom Hearts - Not a Franchise per se, only one game so far, and one on the GBA.
.hack series - Nope. Not big... look at the sales
FFXI (although it is on PC too) - I said Final Fantasy series.
Tekken series - They are Arcade ports. Don't count.
Onimusha series - There is an Onimusha game on the XBOX.
Devil May Cry - One was good. Two was horrible. Don't count it based on that.

The first 2 ARE popular, they both have 2 sequels out or coming out, and are both greatest hits.

VF4 is awesome, it had great sales numbers, and is a greatest hit.

My bad on FFXI....

Basing a judgement on current sales numbers seems pretty silly to me at any rate. What's more important, the actual quality and performance of the machine, or the work that each manufacturer's marketing team does in a given year?

Wow... I thought this was dead....

Anyways, let's look a bit to the future (1 year! YEY!!!) to X-Box 2 and PS3. Anyways, which one do you think will win? X-Box is expected to come out before PS3 by around a year to 1/2 a year from what I heard, but I don't think it will lose any quality. But of course, X-Box 2 will have NO backwards compatabilty. So let's hope it has some pretty damn good games!

Really?!?!....Damn....Microsoft is dumber then I thought..This just reassured my feeling of not wanting to buy the X-box....And if what you say is true...then all those new and great looking games that are coming out for X-box will just be a waste of money....By the time Fable, Doom 3 and Halo 2 hit the stands, X-box 2 will be coming right around the corner.

He's right, XBOX won't have backwards capability and Sony have already said that PS3 will play both PSOne and PS2 games. Nice! Now I can still play all my FF games over and over....and over :P

ok i just took another look and the admin with the "a" said that the xb controller feels better than the ps2 dual shock
ahahhahhahahahhahaaahhahhah
seriously was that a joke or what ?

lets just wrap it up
the xb has better graph because it has a +1 year advantage
ps2 has way way way more games than the xb
ps2 has way way more bad games than the xb
ps2 hit games are real console hit games and not pc port
xb has a hard drive and ethernet port built in
ms is still loosing money on verysingle xb
live is the best thats out right now
the sales of the xb plus those of the xb2 will never equal the sales of either the psx or the ps2

Hey splinter, why didn't you just draw a big arrow facing your name? It would have saved you time and effort and got the same message across. :}

lol. Anyways, call me crazy, but I LIKE the big X-Box controlers, much more than PS2 and GC controlers!

Let's analyze what you have said.

1. The X-Box does indeed have better graphics, but is it realy because of a one year advantage? I just think it has better graphics because it has better technology, which Sony could have easily put in their console. The only next-gen console that should be allowed to argue this is the Dreamcast IMO.

2. True, because of it's backwards compatibilty somewhat, but as your next line says, it also has way way way more hunks of s*** on it's system, which was the fall of Atari. Of course, the amount of crap on it is not nearly what Atari faced with the 2600 tho.... Anyways, X-Box does unfortunetly have Aqua-Man.... If that ever it on my X-Box, I think I'll have to kill myself... I mean that game was worst than Super Man 64!!

3. Shall we look back at Deus Ex for the PS2. That is a great example. Deus Ex for the PS2 was possibly the worst PC to console port ever, which is a real shame, since the original was such a cool and inovative game... Where as Deus Ex: Invisible Wars was designed for both the PC and X-Box, so it feels like it was made for both. Let's also look at arguably the two greatest X-Box games of all time. One is a probably the best FPS on the consoles since Golden Eye, and the other is possibly Bio-Wares most inovative RPG EVER! Heck, it is one of the best RPGs in general! I'm talking about Halo and KOTOR. Both have ended up on the PC, but they are just as good, if not better on the X-Box.

4. The hard drive does give the X-Box an upper hand, allowing people to save $20 dollars on one of the classic, first generation X-Box games.

5. Since Microsoft has a lot of great first party titles like Unreal Championship and Halo, they hardly lose money on me! While there aren't that many first party titles, all are top notch in quality!

6. Couldn't agree with you more. Live is incredible, especially with the ESPN series. On another note, EA might have just handed over the X-Box market to Sega on a silver platter. X-Box owners are now accustomed to playing Sega/ESPN sports games on their X-Box (online at least), so they might have lost a good deal of the sports market on the X-Box... bad EA! BAD!!

7. This is true, but none the less, the war will really heat up when the two consoles are even with the X-Box 2/PS3 battle. While I won't be suprised by any means if Sony wins it, X-Box 2 will most likely be a very close contender!

Anyways, I just tought I would show you a list of games that I will probably buy for each system over the next little while

PS2:
1. GTA:SA
This is only if Rock Star makes it good on the PS2. If it lacks in quality like GTA:VC did, I will not buy it for the PS2
2. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
I'm not sure if there are many PS2 owners out there who aren't somewhat excited about this game!

X-Box
1. Halo 2
Just put in the pre-order for the Limited Edition yesterday! Something tells me this game will hardly ever leave the disc drive... until I own the next few games on the list!!
2. Half-Life 2
The people who make this game are promising that it will be just as good on the X-Box as it will be on a high end PC, and from the looks of it, they will live up to that promise! The only thing that will stop me form getting this game is if, unlike the PC version, it doesn't come with Counter Strike 2
3. Splinter Cell 3: (Forgot the title, but it was announced resently)
While it is not officially announced for the X-Box, Ubi Soft has hinted, both with past SC game being X-Box games (X-Box exclusives for a while!) and other things, I'm sure it will be on the X-Box! Anyways, since I somehow missed Pandora Tommorow (I'm so sad :'''() I MUST own this game. I hope they keep that insanly good multiplayer that was in SC:PT in it, cause I want to play it on X-Box Live!!
4. Jade Empire
After releasing the best RPG to date on ANY console as far as I'm concerned, how can I not be anticipating Bio-Wares' new, martial arts, real-time, RPG. This has so many differnt styles of martial arts, I think I'm going to be dizzy!!
(Before you read, know that I LOOVVVEEEE lots of what Lucas Arts do!)
5. Star Wars Battlefront
First off, it takes the Battlefield 1942 approach on war. That enough is reason to buy!
Second off, it is the first Star Wars game EVER to have content from all six Star Wars movies!
Third off, I just want to kick some serious *** over X-Box Live in the Star Wars Universe!!
6. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Sith Lords
This one takes the title of "Longest Star Wars Name Ever!" finally de-throning Star Wars: Jedi Knights Two: Jedi Outcast! That aside, I think the original was one of the greatest games on the X-Box ever, and can see why SOO many people gave it not only RPG, but GAME OF THE YEAR! I MUSTTTT play the sequeal :)
7. Mercenaries
The final Lucas Arts game I'm really excited about, Mercenaries pretty much gives you a play ground with thousands of enemies to... "play" with, and says, "Have at 'em!" Just the thrill of charging an enemy base, stealing a tank, then flying away in their helicoptor sounds so cool!!
8. Fable
Peter Molyenux, which I probably spelled wrong, could be considered the God of the sims world! Starting out with humble begining with Populus and War Monger, he has gone on to become an encredibly influencialy game designer. Fable doesn't plan to stop that. It was, as he says, his dream game. Probably the most open-eneded RPG ever, this could de-throne the KOTOR series of it's dominance in the X-Box RPG world!

That about raps it up. Final score, 2 to 8!

The PS2 probably has the largest game library and the best controller right now. The xbox controller (the old one atleast) looks and feels alot like the dreamcast controller.
