2012 Should be an interesting year.Follow

#1 Jul 15 2004 at 5:28 PM Rating: Good
If anyone's current on astronomy and/or astrology, you probably know that in the year 2012, our solar system will be in an alignment with the galatic equator. The full cycle of the equinoxes takes almost 26,000 years to complete. On four occasions within the 25,800-year cycle our galactic centre aligns with the sunrise of a solstice or equinox. The last time it occurred was on a fall equinox 6,450 years ago, approximately the dawn of Old World civilisations.

Hmmm... come to think of it... what would the polar effects of earth be if and when we cross this galactic equator. To better imagine that, lets imagine Australlia were to cross the equator. Amung the most obviousness, the toilets would now flush in an opposite direction most Aussies are used to. Things would be greatly different. So what happens to earth? Does it's rotation become reversed? Do the poles flip? Does time begin to run backwards until the dawn of man when the earth crosses back over into our current galactic hemisphere?

Pondering those questions, my attention is drawn towards our decaying magnetic field and the mayan and aztec calendars which both mysteriously end on the Northern Hemisphere's Winter Solstice of 2012. Does it end because the Solstice was the easiest start/end date, or does the fact it is the shortest day of the Nothern Hemisphere's year, therefore an appogy of the sun to the southern hemisphere mean something more drastic...

I don't know what to believe as far as religion goes, and this topic really isn't religion based... however, if the bible is fact, and revelations is a prophecy, I have a feeling we may be jumping into WW3 and nuking the world within a year. The non-believers will have 7 years of nuclear winter, global catacalysmic events and other natural phenomenon to suffer and live thru. That would put us at year 2012 when life ends as mentioned in Revelations. Maybe we'll elect the wrong president in 2012, and it will be over very quickly... Maybe this is all just scepticism and we will not see too drastic of global and natural phenomenon.

Sorry, just bored at work... anyone else ever hear and/or wonder about this? Thoughts/opinions? or should I just call and have myself admitted to a mental wellness institution?

EDIT:
This topic was created based on rare occurance of recent Tornado's in Canada and Chicago, Il. Its starting to get into that season, but Tornado's in Canada is not something that happens too often. Definately worth raising an eyebrow IMO.

That's pretty funny for an idiot.

Not to start a religion war here, but to the best of my knowledge, the bible is in fact, not factual at all. It is all mere speculation.

It's a book of events that is believed to have happened and books about things that may happen. It could be speculation, it could be true, but whatever it is, the world is a ****** up place so live longer and shut the **** up....jk

Which is why I didn't want to tie religion in this... but did anyways for any "believers" out there. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to find the bible was written in the 1500's or 1600's by some acult in britain. Perhaps that would explain the refugee into whats known as USA today.

Anyone believe in the Lost City of Atlantis? If existant at one point in time, this civilization was said to be in its golden era... more so than we are now. We have space exploration, flight, automobiles, computers, electronics, unbelievable/miraculous happenings in the medical field, etc... I think we may be approaching our golden age. Unfortunately, I do feel as though once that time comes we will have surpassed our limits and just action will be taken to rectify this.

The question is not will we be erradicated someday, but instead: "How and When will be erradicated someday?"

Perhaps I am an idiot, I'm comfortable with that... I've known my hypothesis thinking mind can constrew some oddball concepts... but if I'm not mistaken, Galileo Galilei had one of the biggest oddball concepts that mankind could not swallow... even though it was true.

I believe we are all going to suffer from the polar ice caps melting and a massive insurgence of water will cover 99% of the world. Sort of like that movie "The Day After Tomorrow".

IF christianity/catholacism/protestant religions and/or the bible are correct, this will never happen again. It was promised by "God" with the first rainbow after Noah's Flood. The promise to never flood the world again.

However, I doubt both... Personally, I feel the melting of the ice caps and/or the break of the ice shelf itself may just be ONE of those global catacalysmic events. All I know is its been one crazy week. Two tornado's in Canada, a good sized one in Chicago, IL, floods in the southeast, and now weather in Vegas went from Texas weather last night to California weather this afternoon to Florida weather now. How it can swing between all three climates within a 24 hr period is peculiar to me...

2012 will be just as eventful as 2000 (Y2K) or any of the times when various alignments of the planets have occurred. But I'm sure the Astrologers will make a fortune from it.

As for unusual weather, Australia just had the warmest, dryest June on record. It's happening all over, global warming, we've done it to ourselves.

So will 2012 be interesting? Heck yeah, every year is interesting!!

Well, its not just a planetary alignment. Its that, as well as a galactic alignment with our sun. I'm just curious as to what the next 8 yrs will hold and how many more after that... Personally, I've been wondering and waiting for San Andreas fault to slip and give southern california the long awaited "Big One".

I remember one year when I still lived in Memphis, TN, there was this huge earthquake predicted for early Decemeber. It was supposed to sink everything from St. Louis down to Memphis, washing it all away into the Gulf.

Well, I am still here, and the Pyramid in Memphis now has an NBA team.

I don't put a lot of faith into predictions. If I see it going on, i'll react then.

>.< d'oh... you twisting things on me Lauren?

I'm not saying the alignments will cause earthquakes... though it is a possibility. I'm saying things will be effected in general. Sunspots effect electronic devices and communication, the moon's gravitational pull effects our tides and possibly has a play in our weather. Now we have these strange weather phenomenon occuring more and more frequently. "El Nino" and "La Nina" are getting worse and worse year by year. We're loosing our magnetic field like in "The Core", but not as drastic or severe. Could the planet be preparing to turn on its axis in 2012 as it crosses the galactic equator? Afterall, if Australlia rotated 180 degrees after crossing the equator, their toilets would flush in the right direction again.

EDIT:
There's hundreds of fault lines under Las Vegas, and we have an underground river right under I-15 and the Strip. If that sink holes... bad news. Lucky for us there's hundreds of feet of crust between us.

I think it has something to do with the black hole at the center of the galaxy and the rings of the galaxy. Some how, they've determined Celestial Poles and Galactic and Celestial equators.

Here's some more info A lot of random crap, some interesting stuff, and a confusing explination of what the Galactic equator is.

Here's a usefull explination, somewhat.

This enough?

And this is just a cool picture to mark the event.
