Will the United States of America elect a non-white president or a non-Christian president first? I've given this a lot of thought and I can't visualize any scenario where either of these could occur.
I'd have to lean toward a non-white president based solely on Colin Powell. But non-Christian? No way. People would never accept that.
Any opinions?

I agree, non-white seems more likely than non-christian.
Although most non-christians are non-white too. A Jewish candidate might have a chance perhaps? We like to watch them do movies and stand-up comedy.

Depending upon whether Bush gets a second term or not, I can definitely see the Republican party cultivating Condolezza Rice as a potential candidate. Typically the VP would be the next candidate for an exiting 2-term administration, but Cheney is too old and Powell is no spring chicken either.

Yeah, I see Condy Rice as a strong candidate... but I can't see the Republican party giving her a nomination. That's a little too farfetched for me.

Actually, I think the first black president will probably be a republican.
Most racists tend to be very conservative, so vote republican. Naturally, those racist conservatives also hate liberals and would never vote for a democrat.
So, with a black republican candidate, the only people in the country who would be bothered by a black president would face a tough choice. But I think, for most of them, their hate for liberals would overpower their racism, and they would vote the black man in.

I would say we did have our first non-Christian pres with Kennedy. But then again, I don't view the Catholic religion as a Christian religion.
