Morning everyone,

After getting drunk Friday night and searching for sites that I shouldn't have (i.e. big boobed mama's, etc..). It appears that somehow some unwanted files have been copied to my hard drive and now whenever I turn the computer on I get a pop-up every 5 minutes (without have IE explorer open) and then when I search the web - i get pop-ups all the time. The unwanted file also sets my current webpage to "about:blank" which is some sort of search engine. This happens everytime and it is quite annoying.

I opened a Dos box and removed a bunch of crap from my hard rive but was unable to get it all. Does anyone know a good way or program to remove all the unwanted crap from my drive???

I have learned my lesson regarding gettting intoxicated and searching the internet for ****. Please advise a cure for the Virtual VD i now have.

Ad Aware

Spybot

Also in IE goto Tools -> Internet Options -> General and reset your homepage if that has been changed, otherwise it will all get installed again.

Thanks for the help. I will try the software when I get home this evening.

I tried to change the default homepage back to cnn.com but the damn thing wont let me. It changes it back to about:blank when I turn the computer off. When I turn it back on its back to its usual "pain-in-the-***" ways.

p.s. Do i need to edit a start-up file or something like that?

Spybot should be able to clean up most of your problems.

I once had the same sort of popup problem due to...uhm, somebody else using my computer. Yeah, it was a buddy who came over while I was out of town....

Anyway, anything that is not cleaned up with the tools already linked here....you should be able to clean up using Regedit. Be aware, if you have no experience running Regedit, you may want to do a bit of research first.

And next time you want some ****, use a file sharing deal like Kazaa or Emule. Or just subscribe to some newsgroups. You should scan EVERYTHING for viruses, though.

Methinks I have revealed enough of my **** savvy for the moment.

Yeah just get a program called Spybot Search and Destroy v1.3 its a very good program for taking off that annoying spyware. Its very easy to find just type that name in any search bar and you should find it pretty quick.

One you remove the adware you will be able to change your homepage and it won't automatically change back.

It's very important to get BOTH AdAware and Spybot S&D. They each miss things the other can catch. I use these in a coprorate environment daily. Also a chance on CoolWebSearch. CWSShredder takes care of those!

This link has links to all 3 programs and more
