I understand that this site has to make money, and I understand ads, but why not an ad at the top of the site, or on the right hand side, or maybe just one popup instead of two or three that flood my screen...and that goddamn side scrolling one. I can't ALT-ESC it, I have to wait for it to stop then manually close it.

It's getting really annoying. Buy some Premium accounts; donate cash. Help fight popups :(

Try using the Mozilla Firefox browser, it has a built in pop up blocker that works great:)

Or you could bike up to Michigan, pick up 34 pop bottles on the side of the expressway. Turn em in for 10 cents a piece and buy a karkin premium membership...

How is the google toolbar? I kind of like having internet explorer as a backup(always good to have a backup:) but I need a good pop up blocker for it.

this is the worse I found so far:

How can I learn when a new version is available?

The Google Toolbar automatically updates itself when a new version is available. This may not happen immediately, but it will eventually. If you learn that there's a new version out and you've just got to have it, you can reinstall the toolbar to make sure you're driving the latest model. (You may need to uninstall first, though this shouldn't normally be necessary
.)"

Here's more
From: http://www.spywareinfo.com/newsletter/archives/december-2002/12102002.php

Google goes to great lengths to explain that, in their own words, there may be privacy issues with some of the features, and provides an alternate download where those features are disabled. You have to go out of your way to find and activate those features. Contrast this behavior to some other toolbar makers who use activex to spread like trojans, gather statistical data on the user to present them with "more relevent special offers", forcibly reset browser settings, and make it damned hard to remove.

Google does make money on it in a roundabout way, because these features make their search engine more accurate and useful, which makes more people likely to use it and click the ads they sell on the site. The ads, by the way, are determined by the keywords you search for, NOT where you've been surfing, unlike many of the other toolbars. You'd see the same ads with or without the toolbar installed.

So, is the Google toolbar spyware? No, it is not.

PC Magazine wrote:
Google collects a good deal of information about your query. It records not only what you searched for (when you activate the advanced Toolbar features), but several other pieces of information as well, including the time of day, the type of browser you're running, the language your browser uses, and your IP address. Many times, after giving you a list of Web sites that match your search, Google will also record which sites you actually visited. "Google may choose to exhibit its search results in the form of a 'URL redirecter,'" reads Google's main privacy policy. "When Google uses a URL redirecter, if you click on a URL from a search result, information about the click is sent to Google."

The company does, however, share records of users' surfing habits with people outside the company: "Google may share information about you with advertisers, business partners, sponsors, and other third parties." And, as is the case with any business, the company "will release specific personal information about you if required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order."

Google's toolbar is spyware:
With the advanced features enabled, Google's free toolbar for Explorer phones home with every page you surf, and yes, it reads your cookie too. Their privacy policy confesses this, but that's only because Alexa lost a class-action lawsuit when their toolbar did the same thing, and their privacy policy failed to explain this. Worse yet, Google's toolbar updates to new versions quietly, and without asking. This means that if you have the toolbar installed, Google essentially has complete access to your hard disk every time you connect to Google (which is many times a day). Most software vendors, and even Microsoft, ask if you'd like an updated version. But not Google. Any software that updates automatically presents a massive security risk

Yes, the program contains software that phones home. I stand by my original statement. Also be aware that they can change any of their policies at any time and automatiacally and silently update the toolbar to reflect the new policy without your knowledge.

Im afraid your Bam was a bit premature. I am not even close to satisfied yet.

I'm going out on a limb to assume primiunem translates to premium.

Here's a link to everything you ever wanted to know about having a premium membership:

Try doing some reading. It'll help your spelling. It'll also help you learn to form a sentence people can understand.

Google Toolbar specifically states that it takes information from you if you enable advanced features, it's no secret. Just don't enable it, and it works like a charm. Haven't seen a pop-up in months, and the "highlight" and "find on page" buttons rock.

www.popswatter.com Real easy to use, comes with a few features that don't activate themselves if you decide not to use 'em. IE Games, an automatic Highlighter, etc. Only drawback is it is sponsored by mywebsearch.com, and so if you don't go to a search site it will use their websearch. Otherwise it's fine.
Spybot Search & Destroy If you're worried about Spyware or Adware, here ya go. This is THE best spykiller I've found, will get rid of Gator/Tracking cookies/Dialers, etc. Great if you often surf in the more mature waters of the intarweb. And....GETS RID OF GATOR! No other spykiller I've found killed the stupid reptile as efficiently as this one does.
