#1 Jun 20 2004 at 8:20 PM Rating: Default
We will be conducting focus groups that will discuss MMORPGs on the evening of Wednesday, June 30, in Concord, California.

If you have a current, active account with an MMORPG we invite you to participate in a discussion group. If you qualify, the group will last approximately two hours and you will be paid $75.

Nichols Research will host these discussions. If you would like more information or would like to participate, please email multiplayer@nicholsresearch.com

Be sure to include your name and phone number with area code so we can contact you.

Thank you,

Nichols Research

Do it guys. It's easy money, and it's fun. I've done this stuff when I was smaller for food products.

Why do you always have to live in CA to do game related focus groups?? Can't you do it via the internet???

Be careful with this guys. It looks like a legitimate company to the extent that they have actual buildings and their web info chacks out, but I don't know what they will be doing with this information...

Selling it, obviously. There's not a lot of charity focus group firms that just give money away to vearious groups of people.

Eh, at least then I'd get junk mail about MMORPGs instead of about refinancing my home and vinyl siding.

So long as you don't do anything retarded like give them your social security or checking account number, what are they going to get? Your name, address and how much you like Everquest or FFXI? The first two are known to a kajillion marketers already and the last thing is what most of us prattle on about on this forum anyway.

I appreciate the concern Kaolian. If I could rate up, or if you had less than a f-in 5 i would rate you up for it.

It depends I suppose. I remember doing a bunch of focus groups like this when I was younger (much younger) and poorer. They do use your phone number, but mostly to sell to other focus groups. If you're in need of a bit of extra income and don't mind whoring yourself out for this kind of thing, it's not a bad gig. You show up at some place, sign a form, then test a product or listen to a speil or someother info-gathering thing, then fill our a questionaire. At the end, you get an envelop with cash in it.

Although $75 is kinda cheap. I remember most of them paying $100 and that was like 15 years ago. You'd think they'd pay more now...

It may be legitamate to the extent of being an actual company offering real money for a focus group, but people who come here, to our little community, and blatently shove advertisements down our throats (although in truth, we don't even have to read them) annoy the hell out of me.

It's just like the "Kill an anonymous poster today!" campaign, only we want to kill different people now.

Really, when you think about it, it shouldn't bother you that much, because this site IS chocked full of banners, and I never hear anyone ******** about that.

It's only full of banners if you aren't a premium member. If you pony up and send some money to Allah, he takes all the banners away for you.

Hopefully this answers your questions:

To clarify the purpose of this post, the focus group market research is being conducted for a company in the game industry. The company has requested that it remain anonymous, but greatly values the opinions of current and potential MMORPG gamers.

Only the responses of individuals actually attending the groups are shared with the game company. No personal contact information is shared with the game company, nor will it be sold.

These groups do require that people attend in person which regrettably excludes many readers not in the region - at other times groups are conducted in other parts of the country. These groups are not intended to be representative of the entire population of MMORPG players, but we are interested in getting opinions and ideas about MMORPG games from those who know them best.

Ok, was Nichols Research calling people last week? I could swear I got a phone call from a company who's name was yours and telling me I would be paid for my time and participation. I assumed it was a telemarketer (even though she insisted it wasn't), but wouldn't tell me straight out what it was about. Her lack of forthrightness made me decline her offer after about 15 seconds of conversation.

While 75 bucks might entice me if it were closer, battling Bay area traffic to get to Concord isn't quite enough for me to bite.

Interesting concept though-- and I'd be a prime target for your focus study since I spend hundreds of dollars on video games...

Medical experiments where they remove the part of your brain that allows you to make a coherent argument pay more.

Waste 2 hours of your time making $75, or waste 2 hours of your time posting on these forums.

Yeah, but that works out to a measly $37.50 an hour and no expense account or meals.

I make $15 over that just sitting around watching CNN & ESPN waiting for a call. Being a helicopter pilot is the ****.

What I find funny is that apparently the best players all reside around concord, CA. WTF is up with that. Assuming that the people that know the games the best can only be found in CA. That is a bunch of BS.

And for them to post here, knowing full well that only a very small percentage of people that visit this site are from the Concord, CA area makes me believe that something sinister is about.

Our birds run a white paint scheme with teal blue striping and lettering. Sutter Health's color palette and all. It makes our flight suits look like Trekkie uniforms.
