actually he listed bad religion and i think they're pretty punk for new age punk. and i dont think atari teenage riot is punk unless you consider techno fuse with a sex pistols song punk...which i dont.

"How about MDC"

Millions of Dead Cops
More Dead Cops
Millions of Dead Children
Millions of Damned Christians

what were some of the other ones?

BTW, this thread is dangerously degenerating into a "punker-than-thou" post (which is what killed punk in the first place - does the phrase "I'm gonna become a Rude Boy like my Dad" ring a bell to anyone?).

Green Day , punk? Not really, but still a damn good band.

29 here.

Minor Threat, The Descendants, the Damned, Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmen, some Clash and Sex Pistols, MXPX and NOFX.

I like some new stuff, but it's pop not punk: Atari's, Blink 182's last couple albums, Yellowcard, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and Prodigy.

I still love music, but good new music is getting tougher and tougher to find.

Smasharoo, how do you not fit Bad Religion in as punk!?!? O.o

Aside from that I'm almost 27 and still regularly listen to Bad Religion, All, Nofx and Descendents. Alot of others I used to listen too have declined as my collection was steadily lost/stolen :(

Defintely a later version of punk, probably 2nd or 3rd wave.

Not to say they aren't entertaining.

Basically, any so-called punk band that uses compression on their guitar recording isn't really all that punk.

'Sides Epitath Records is kinda suck.

You're joking right? Number one, whether or not the are on Epitaph
doesn't mean jack as far as talent goes. Number 2, do realize how long Bad Religion has been around? If they're 2nd or 3rd wave, then what are your 1st and 2nd waves?

A crap load of people, including myself, would have to dissagree about that. Bad Religion is one of the first punk bands to exist, predating the sex pistols by a few years (they were started in 1970 or 71, can't remember which).

Dead Milkmen are from Quakertown, about 20 minutes from here :-D

But yeah, I still listen to Op Ivy (I saw them before the Lint Rides Again tour! I am so cool!) Angelic Upstarts, Elvis Hitler, etc.

If I see a single post here with Good Charlotte in it or Blink 182, you will be rated down :-P

You youngin's. I'm 32. Why when I was your age...I was the same age as you. And we liked it.

But seriously folks, The sex pistols, Bad religeon (whichI've always considered edgier alt rock but whatever), NOFX, The dead kennedys, the dead milkmen, and several othes mentioned are indeed very good punk.
I also like Thrill Kill Cult, Atari, and others. But then I listen to everything from classical to blues to rap to country to pop. Except Disco, polka, opera and gospel.

Green day? Offspring? no way are they punk. Pop/alt rock yeah. That's like saying the Beastie Boys are heavy metal.

Hmmm. . . hafta say im not a punk rawk kinda person. More into the older melow, "hippie"(i guess, tho im no hippy) music. Such as The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic( @.@ ), new stuffs like StringCheeseIncident, Keller WIlliams, Michael Franti (Rebel music, kinda a new age Bob Marley, but not a crappy wanna-be Marley). Know its off topic, but im bored and had to let my music be represented here!

Anybody ever hear either of Mike Ness' solo albums? Cheating @ Solitare or Under the Influence? That's some good **** right there. Bluegrass and Rockabilly. That's punk before punk.
#40 Jun 28 2004 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
hmm, what exactly is punk anyway? is it old school like the ramones, op ivy, the descendents.. or stuff like pennywise, rancid, the vandals.. or is it some of ligter BS like mxpx, green day, yellowcard, NFG.. or is it anti flag, black flag, white flag, or is it more hardcore? or is it more like adema, linkin park? oh wait i know what it is... its independence, anarchy, the need to be different even though every single punk is the same. mohawk piercings and a rancid patch. the need to not have any rules even though if you like all of the bands i mentioned.. you arent a true punk.

A buddy of mine (who is a huge Social Distortion fan) saw him at some dive bar when he was stationed in Texas. Mike played, and the crowd seemed fairly disinterested. This pal of mine, who always gets the most aggresive case of beer muscles ever, started berating the crowd, dismayed that the "local hicks wouldn't know greatness if sat on their inbred faces". Some of his army cohorts quickly escorted him out before the situation got worse.

True punk dies with either youth..or success.

usually.

And if I hear one more person tell me that Blink 182 is punk.. I'm going to bite out my ******* tongue and spit it at them.

"Davey Destroyed The Punk Scene"

"He thinks because he's got spikes on his
Leather, that he's the punkest, he thinks
he's better! He walks around with his
Nose in the air, the only thing bigger
Than his ego is his hair
He thinks that uniform he's wearing is a
Good excuse for his snobby glaring
Davey destroyed the punk scene
Davey destroyed the punk scene
He thinks that uniform he's wearing
Makes him a punk, yeah
Davey destroyed the punk scene
Davey destroyed the punk scene
I don't know when punk became a uniform
I always thought that uniforms were
For the army
But I guess he's right he's got punk rock
Hair, he paid a fortune for his gear
Davey destroyed the punk scene
Davey destroyed the punk scene
He thinks that uniform he's wearing,
Makes him a punk, yeah
Davey destroyed the punk scene
Davey destroyed the punk scene
We've got to try to stick together! Oi!
Oi! We're not supposed to fight each

If this ignorance continues punk will be
Lost on book shelves Oi! Oi!

No mention of The Angry Samoans or Agent Orange?

Not enough mentions of The Ramones either.

You all need to go back to Punk 101.

Punk Pop = Blink 182, Green Day, Offspring and all this new school **** don't count.

I'm NOT joking.

Bad Religion - 1982 = 2nd/3rd wave

Ramones - 1976 = 1st/2nd wave

Misfits - 1977 = 1st/2nd wave

Television - 1973 = 1st wave

NY Dolls - 1971 = 1st wave

AND if you cruise up to the first post I wrote on this thread, you'll find a link to the real roots of punk rock.

That's all for today. Class dismissed.

Vandals, Pennywise, NOFX, Bouncing Souls, Bad Religion, *Dropkick Murphys* (more of an oi band), Face to Face, Descendants, Unwritten Law, Anything on a Fat Wreck Chords comp, etc.

26 here, hitting my 7th warped tour this year.

Warped tour 2004 Lineup

Stealthrhino: Flogging Molly will be there and they put on an excellent show.

Other notables include: The vandals, Bouncing Souls, Guttermouth, Bad Religion, NOFX and Tiger Army

However the following bands will draw hundreds of jailbait teens: Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte. (Expect to see me hiding in the beer garden on Aug 7th during those bands)

I'm 26 and have been getting into a lot of Celt-punk/Folk Rock recently, i.e. Dropkick, Flogging Molly, Black 47, The Real McKenzies, The Tossers, The Popes, The Pogues (with and without Shane McGowan) and the solo works by Shane McGowan

edit: forgot Bouncing Souls (2x)
