Does it bother anyone else when someone new writes one post where someone agrees with them, they somehow grab a 4-5 rating, and within a few posts get scholar/sage/guru status.

Sometimes these people turn out to be great additions to the forum, but alot of the time, they turn into hungry, hungry karma trolls, who look to rate down anyone who disagrees with them, and who really don't post anything constructive overall. I've just come across a plethora of these situations lately, and it's just getting pretty old.

I propose that allakhzam AT LEAST holds off giving scholor status until the person has a 3.1 rating over the course of 100 posts, Guru 200-300, and Sage 500+. That would give these people time to show their true colors in the posts they write, anyone can get a rateup/ratedown on a single post or two, it doesn't doesn't show anything.

It'd cut down on the people who nuke posts because it doesn't agree with them, and just help people respect the Karma system better. When I see a Sage with 38 posts, it really demeans the whole karma reward system, and is overall highly detrimental.

They actually have been experimenting with this for a while, having a higher post count requirement for sage and guru.

According to Danalog anyway.

easily explained: Sockpuppets.

Got a problem with it make one of your own.

Your rating has little or nothing to do with knowlage, humour or ability to write a coherent sentance.

I has everything to do with apeasing the masses and rightious self rating up via sockpuppets, ask Skeeter he is a Grandmaster of this.

It DOES have something to do with it, THER ARE a lot of people with higher ratings than Dracoid who can use the verb to be.

They say that they changed the system after this so that this wouldn't happen, but really we still ended up with another insta-guru and I got the No-Rate status.

Then this happened right after, simply because Asako's a self-rightious bigot, and paranoid as hell.

You sound like my wife. I've started telling our freinds that she's my "sugarmomma".

Would you work if you didn't have to and could instead play poker on the internet and post here?

I think not!!

I think the people that have few posts with high titles prolly have several email accounts and just register new names then rate themselves. My 2cp.

It happens, we try to adjust them down when that occurs, usually because it is easy to tell because they share the same IP for the ratee and the instaguru.

how about per every say..thousand posts, the Rating you give someone is worth more..karma points or wahtever...

This giving the older posters the power to Nuke threads essentially, and Nuke each other, and wouldn't that be fun to watch. Smiley: sly

Only bad ratings I'm handing out at the moment are to Katie because she's reached a new level of Moron, and to people that complain about the rating system.

Guess which one of those the OP is.

And admins, don't go taking my rating away, I have every right to rate down the OP just as he has the right to rate me down, I found the post very stupid and boring, deserving of the "Awful" rating I gave it.

Nothing the Mods do will ever fix all of the problems, look at me for an example.

You'll settle for how it is and like it, ********

If no one really cares about the rating system, why is it even implemented? Seems like everyone agrees that it's broken, I suppose I just don't see the point of even keeping it around in that case.

Little sensitive on the topic Skeeter? Sorry I ruined your day with my "stupid" and "boring" post. I'll make sure to add a few explatives, and a few links to utterly pointless crap to spice it up next time...

I agree... 15 posts isn't enough to rate someone... hell I have only posted about 20 times and somehow I managed to be a Scholar... and half the stuff I say doesn't even make sense!!

Because it seems like such a good, egalitarian idea that people don't want to let it go. It would work on other forums, it works fine on Slashdot, for example, but the demographic here isn't real conducive to it. Not to mention that it carries from forum to forum. Someone making fun of a person in Asylum shouldn't impact that poster's rating in the FFXI forum.

If I were king, it'd be tied to the specefic forums and just shut off in OOT or Asylum. That's more of a pain in the *** to code, though, and still probably not worth the effort when the posters are going to use in ways it was intended to be used anyway.

"to be" is not a verb, "be" is a verb, infinitives are only one word, it is a common mistake that "to be" is the infinitive which is why you can't split one. Oh and Ther, whats a ther?

Just wait until you have 10,000+ posts like me-- 100 upward ratings or downward ratings doesn't affect my number karma one iota.

I am impervious to your anklebiting.
