In IRLA read it very nice book. If you read it what do you guys think happens at the end? My theorie is that with hypofermia after the sentance They start down. they both go unconisous they recieve or remember all the memories because they both have feelings and both have the ability to recieve memories.

I dont know for sure. In the book, it mentions the last "giver" in training leaving/dying and all the memories coming back to the people. Part of me wants to think it was a small commune of some sort, and he found civilization beyond the boundaries of the commune. I mean he was able to heat, or cool himself and the child with the memories. As to your question though, I dont know, only the author would be able to clarify the ending.

Didn't she blame this forum for the downfall of the Asylum which led to her leaving or some such crap?

Read: I have no idea how to discuss and examine literature. Trying to apply my own thought processes to a piece of lit is a foreign concept to me.

Welcome back, Katie. Smiley: wink2

Title made me think of The Giving Tree. That kid was a punk and the tree should have fell on his ungrateful *** while it still had the chance.

IMO The Giver is the best kind of story... it is interesting and insightful, but at the same time is rooted in real-life truths. Whether or not the Giver kid dies in the end is irrelevant... what is important is that the general message is received. How crappy was a world where everyone is the same: no color, no laughter, no life? Moral of the story then: if you hate others because they're different from you, your "He11" will be like the world depicted in this story. I like that kind of message... true justice, yes?
