Heres the deal. I had to create a portfolio website for one of my classes, and I need 2 things:

1) Checking it for problems
(dead links, typos, crap like that)

2) Opinions and/or critiques
("this is crap!" or "wow, not bad...")

If some people could do that, then I'd be all kinds of happy...
Heres the link (and I pray to god it works o_o)

Another Starving Artist

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

Oh... and the guestbook doesn't work because I can't put scripts up on the school site... ^_^

nice start.

some comments.

1. i hate popups even inside the same site. just make art work to go an other page inside your site, or replace the center of the art. popups are just evil.

2. nice basic layout. simple, loads fast, and easy on the eyes. the homepage discription telling you what to do, is a little off in Opera browser.

the last line overlaps the bottom of the box its in. rest looks nice overall.

Woo... thats exactly what I wanted to know! @_@

Thanks for the input... about the popups... I feel the same way, but I got crap in class for people "having to hit the back button too much", and this remedied it as well as making my little disclaimer reappear whenever someone clicks a picture.

As for the Opera problem, I'll have to go home and check it out (on a Mac right now...).

Thanks ^_^

Pretty ******* average, Jason. Sorry. Unless you're looking to work at an entry level graphic design job for a ****** ad firm I'd start thinking about studying something you can get a job with.

Bah. Don't listen to Smash. It's a pretty decently designed site. It's clean. It loads quickly. The links are clear. It's laid out in a way that's convenient to the viewer. I don't have a problem with the pop-ups since they're just for loading the images. Sure. I might prefer links, but then I'm smart enough to know that if I want to view a bunch of images and not have to hit the back button, I can right click the link to bring it up in another window. You'd think no one would need pop-ups because of that, but tons of people aren't that bright...

Nothing wrong with designing a site with the lowest common denominator in mind.

then if they are giving you nuts about the constant back button, then make a click though slide show type setting, but NOT a popup.

that way they can navigate though the graphics with a life/right arrow you have down there to move though the slideshow, but can hit the back button 1 time and return to the index.

All the links and image windows appear to be working correctly. The only problem I had was that some of the image windows were so large I could only view half the picture.

I'm running at 1024 x 768 resolution, fyi.

I would have posted what you people did. Everythng's great, everyone's above average, you're going to have a fantasic career in teh exciting world of graphic design. I figured evereyone else who posted would sound like a bad ad for ITT tech so I thought I'd actually go out on a limb and give an honest oppinion.

Perish the thought.

If that picture was the right size, I would have made it my Background.

It's an excellent picture. (And I don't talk bullsh*t...never liked the taste of it)

Well, I looked at your site. The site isn't bad at all, and your 3-D and Digi is promising, not ****** in the least. However your Traditional could use some work. I do like your art, don't get me wrong, and from what I can see from the examples, you've got a decent eye. It just seems a bit... fifth grade, if you will. And hey, that may not be the field you're going for, so ***** what I say, right? I'm not going to sit here and say 'Its all crap!' (not that anyone is, mind you) but I'm also not going to sit here and tell you you're the next friggin' Leonardo De Vinci. You've done a good job, and kudos to you for having the balls to post a link to your work here, and for actually going to school for what you like to do *gives herself a pointed look in the mirror*.

Congrats Jason, ya done alright boy.

Now, if what you're looking for is an over-all judgement on the layout of the site itself, then I have no qualms with it. I like it, it's fast, simple and easy for a viewer that might not have gone to a site like that before. Good job. ^^

Pleh.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback, I really appreciate it... ^_^ Now to address some things that have been said:

Thanks, I liked that one too... took almost no time to make, and it does look a bit rough, but I only took the 3D class for one semester... ^_^;

Indeed. I plan on changing them back to regular links once I get my grade for it... heh.

I know... I did all the design on a Mac with a larger resolution, and it kinda threw me off. x_x After getting home and checking it all out at 1024, everything looks... large. (and pisses me off, because it looked a hell of a lot better at the higher resolution..)

Thanks actually. I'd rather get a "its ok, but not great" than everyone feeling too bad to tell me I need work... ^_^ (er, not that everyone did that but... um... *digs the hole deeper*)

Understandable, seeing as I swore off drawing during highschool. Though keep in mind the traditional stuff is mostly multi-colored prints, so its less "I didn't draw it well enough" an more *********** I didn't line that color up properly!"

Lol... I'll get right on that... (though I won't kid myself really... ^_^)

All in all, not bad. IMO, your digi and 3d skill are way beyond your P&P skills. Though, you do have a nice flare for anime, so I would suggest you keep it up. Otherwise, I don't think you'd be half bad in digi designs.

Oooook... I think I fixed those damn gaps on the index.html page... I'll have to check it when I get home...
/sigh
I'll have to redo the entire thing at 1024x768 on my laptop so it'll actually NOT look like crap...
